Needing A Laugh: Bridesmaids (2011)

Kristen Wiig and crew are the providers of raucous laughs and great comedy in this hilarious movie. Lost and disillusioned after losing her bakery and boyfriend, Wiig's Annie Walker is asked to be maid of honor for her best friend Lillian — one of the only good things to happen to the former baker in a long time.

However, what follows is a comedy of errors, including drunken flights, Lillian's uncontrollable diarrhea in the middle of the street (played by the fabulous Maya Rudolph), bridesmaid wars with the uppity Helen, destructive bachelorette parties, and some of the best laugh out loud moments ever. If you're in the mood for humor, Bridesmaids is the best it gets.

Romantic: Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Everyone loves a rom-com, especially when it's about a long-lost childhood or college lover who reunites with their soulmate years after their incomplete love story. Ali Wong plays Sasha in Always Be My Maybe, a decorated chef, and Randall Park is Marcus, her teenage lover who can't move on with his life after his mother's death.

The two reconnect and find their old spark again, which is enjoyable to watch for lovers of romantic movies. They rediscover San Francisco, the old Cantonese restaurant they used to frequent, and a way to cope with Sasha's fame. There's angst, drama, heartbreak, and a very satisfying end and it's one of the best under-the-radar romance movies to watch.

Happy: Yesterday (2019)

Happiness, for many, is a song by The Beatles, and a whole movie about them is bound to make one feel ebullient. Jack Malik, played by Himesh Patel, finds himself in a world where The Beatles don't exist, and nobody has ever heard their brilliant music.

As the only person in the world who remembers their iconic tunes, Jack becomes an instant star by recording hits like "Hey Jude" and "Come Together," but it's only a matter of time before he finds John and his bandmates. Yesterday exudes happiness and would please anybody with its bright, beautiful visual palette, and some of the best musical moments.

Sad: Someone Great (2019)

A bittersweet experience, Someone Great will indulge any viewer's gloomy mood but also manage to lift it. Led by Gina Rodriguez, music journalist Jenny finds herself in a surprise breakup with her long-term boyfriend, Nate, right before she leaves for Chicago for her dream job.

Jenny, along with her best friends, oscillate between flashbacks of her relationship and then getting over the breakup with her girlfriends by having one last hurrah around town and dancing to Lizzo. This movie will feed one's sadness but also attempt to remove it, and is one great movie to watch, especially if you're going through a breakup.

Looking For Thrills: Zombieland (2009)

This Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Woody Harrelson starring movie give the audience just the right amount of thrills, in the form of armies of vicious zombies ready to attack just about anything in a post apocalyptic world.

Narrow escapes from zombie people, lots of guns, high stakes chases and a lot of running keep the pace of the movie going, and the thrilling feels are tempered perfectly with a hint of emotion between Wichita (Stone) and Columbus (Eisenberg), and some amazing comedic timing by Tallahassee.

Rebellious: Moxie (2021)

Moxie is a tale of young Vivian who observes the sexist ways of her high school, and then, inspired by her feminist mother, starts an anonymous zine of the same name that calls out high school boys on their bad behavior, misogyny and sexism. It's the ideal movie for days when one is feeling like starting a riot.

Vivian, along with her gang of friends, aims to bring about change in the school that favors an obvious misogynist because he's good at sports, and she fights the authorities to get the rights that all the girls deserve.

Content: From Up On Poppy Hill (2011)

When feeling content, one longs for heartwarming, wholesome content, and nothing is quite as fulfilling as a Studio Ghibli movie. A lesser-known one, From Up On Poppy Hill is set in 1963 Yokohama, where Umi Matsuzaki meets Shun Kazama, a member of the school's newspaper club.

Together, with the other students, they try to save the school clubhouse from demolition, while Umi and Shun's bond grows deeper. What they realize later is the connection they share may go back several years before their birth.

Many people love holidays, be it Halloween, Christmas, Hanukah, Thanksgiving, or others. For those who want to see all of these holidays in one movie, Holidate is the one flick that shouldn't be skipped.

Sloane and Jackson are likable characters who meet and agree to be each other's holiday dates: no romance or strings attached, but only a way to curb awkward questions from the families and fight the loneliness one can feel around the holiday season. The pair goes through every imaginable holiday together, so viewers feeling celebratory will get a dose of every festival before the couple admits that their love runs deeper than they first realized.
