Ghosts and ghost stories have been a popular part of human storytelling since ancient times. They can invoke fear, a sense of awe and mystery, or even some odd supernatural humor. Either way, ghosts often appear in various movies, be it a horror or family-friendly fantasy feature.

Ghosts can vary from malevolent and malicious to friendly and kind, with motives ranging from revenge to wishing to help others. As a result, movie ghosts have all kinds of personalities, and there is at least one suited to each sign of the Zodiac.

Aries: Aggie Prenderghast (ParaNorman)

Aggie Prenderghast in ParaNorman

The stop-motion ghost story ParaNorman is about a human boy called Norman who can see and talk to ghosts. Although marketed as a family-friendly movie, ParaNorman isn't afraid to venture into the dark side and was revolutionary in both animation production and characterization. It's little wonder it was nominated for Best Animated Feature.

Agatha "Aggie" Prenderghast is the final ghost that Norman faces, and the one responsible for his hometown's curse. Accused of witchcraft when alive due to also being a medium for ghosts, an angry and vengeful Aggie puts a curse on the town. Aries are very passionate and reactionary by nature, so, because of her strong emotions, including her adoration of her caring mother, Aggie is a movie ghost most associated with Aries.

Taurus: Slimer (Ghostbusters)

Ghostbusters is easily one of the most famous household titles when it comes to ghost movies. Full of comedy, a variety of spooks, and one of cinema's most memorable theme tunes, Ghostbusters has proven that it still holds up today, and it remains one of the most iconic movie franchises to this day.

There are a number of memorable ghosts in Ghostbusters, and one such example is the green toothy Slimer. Slimer loves food, something that those under the Taurus sign supposedly also enjoy. Furthermore, Slimer also possesses the Taurean trait of perseverance; he is a ghost that has been in every single Ghostbusters movie to date, after all.

Gemini: No-Face (Spirited Away)

Spirited Away is a Studio Ghibli classic, telling the story of a girl named Chihiro who is taken to the spirit realm. Chihiro meets a variety of unusual ghosts, beasts, and monsters, but perhaps the most recognizable of this cast of characters is the masked ghost called No-Face.

Geminis are known for their adaptability to change and their quick responsiveness, and No-Face frequently morphs and adapts to his surroundings based on those around him, whether it's feeding off of energy or physical things. He soon finds a new permanent home as the apprentice of the witch Zeniba.

Cancer: Casper (Casper)

Based on the Harvey comic books, Casper sees the iconic Friendly Ghost bought to the big screen. Starring Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman, Universal's movie see Casper make friends with Kat, the lonely daughter of a ghost therapist.

Friendly by name and nature, Casper shares this trait with those under the Cancer sign. Cancers are known for their gentle and nurturing nature, and Casper easily displays this, most prominently when he properly introduces himself to Kat while making her and her father breakfast. The same cannot be said for his wicked ghost uncles, however.

Leo: Ghost Of Christmas Present (The Muppet Christmas Carol)

Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol is one of the most famous ghost stories and Christmas stories of all time. It has been adapted countless times for film and television, but there is perhaps no version more beloved than the Muppets' take on the classic tale. The three Christmas ghosts are original creations rather than played by beloved Muppets, and the jolly Ghost of Christmas Present is, in particular, a delight.

The Ghost of Christmas Present is warm and welcoming to Scrooge and those around him, qualities associated with being a Leo. This is further emphasized with his song "It Feels Like Christmas," arguably the best song in A Muppet Christmas Carol.

Virgo: Dr. Malcolm Crowe (The Sixth Sense)

M. Night Shymalan's The Sixth Sense is a critically acclaimed psychological horror film starring Bruce Willis, Toni Collette, and Haley Joel Osment. The movie focuses on a young boy named Cole who can see ghosts and is aided by child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe.

The plot twist is that Malcolm is a ghost himself, and he does not realize this until towards the end of the movie. As a trained psychologist, Malcolm is naturally intelligent, analytical, and willing to help Cole and others, characteristics exhibited by those born under the Virgo sign.

Libra: Candyman (Candyman)

Tony Todd as Candyman

One of the most iconic horror movie ghosts is the Candyman. A vengeful spirit and an urban legend who slaughters those who say his name three times, the Candyman has haunted four movies, including the new and long-anticipated sequel.

It is Candyman's tragic origin story that perhaps ironically makes him most suited to represent the Libra sign. Libra is most associated with justice and peace, but the Candyman, known as Daniel when he was alive, was unjustly hanged by a lynch mob for an interracial romance. Furthermore, Libras are said to be artistic, and Daniel was an artist before he died.

Scorpio: Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare On Elm Street)

Freddy Kruger is undoubtedly one of the most popular and iconic characters in horror to this day. First appearing in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy is a serial killer that can haunt and kill his victims through dreams. He has since appeared in nine movies, including a remake.

What makes Freddy most associated with the Scorpio sign is his tenacity when pursuing his victims, particularly the protagonist Nancy Thompson. Furthermore, Scorpios are known to be psychological, and what is more psychological than killing with fear and through dreams?

Sagittarius: Beetlejuice (Beetlejuice)

Gothic director Tim Burton's second feature film, Beetlejuice is one of his most iconic movies. It focuses on the recently deceased young couple Adam and Barbara as they try and scare away the outspoken Deetz family, who have moved into their home. One attempt sees them try and work with the eponymous "ghost with the most" himself.

Beetlejuice's very extroverted personality suits the Sagittarius sign well. He is honest, independent, outspoken, and notably irresponsible—all traits associated with the Archer sign. But, perhaps the most notable Sagittarian quality he has is that he is extremely funny. It's partly because of this that he's considered one of Tim Burton's best villains.

Capricorn: The Headless Horseman (Sleepy Hollow)

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a popular ghost tale by Washington Irving that features the infamous ghost, the Headless Horseman. Whilst the Disney version is certainly noteworthy, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow is a brilliantly dark fantasy movie, with the vengeful Horseman bought terrifyingly to life by Christopher Walken.

Capricorns are driven and focused individuals, and the Headless Horseman is driven in his quest to find his head. What's more, in Burton's version, the Horseman is under a curse to obey whoever has his skull. This can show discipline, another trait associated with the Ram.

Aquarius: Juno (Beetlejuice)

Juno (Sylvia Sydney) in Beetlejuice

Continuing with Tim Burton, one of his most underrated characters is the ghost Juno, a caseworker who used to be Beetlejuice's boss. She works with the Maitlands getting settled into the afterlife and house haunting basics.

Juno is very forthright and assertive by nature, much like those supposedly born under the Aquarius sign. Furthermore, while she is in no way a horrible person, she exhibits the Aquarian trait of being relatively cold towards others, including the Maitlands. One hilarious example is when a high school football team slowly realizes they never survived a bus crash, prompting Juno to respond "how did you guess?"

Pisces: Moaning Myrtle (Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets)

Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

In the Harry Potter series, Hogwarts is haunted by a number of ghosts ranging from the jolly Nearly Headless Nick to the sinister Bloody Baron. Perhaps one of the most popular and noteworthy ghosts is Moaning Myrtle, the ghost of a student who died in the girls' lavatory under the stare of the Basilisk.

Sensitivity is a characteristic supposedly notable among individuals under Pisces, and Moaning Myrtle is a very sensitive girl, both before and after death. Furthermore, Myrtle is rather dreamy and oddly affectionate towards Harry, two qualities that are also associated with Pisces.
