Disney's Luca tells the story of a young sea monster who makes an adventurous friend. The pair dream of buying a Vespa so they can explore the world together. They leave the ocean and go to a nearby human town where they take part in The Portorosso Cup in hopes of winning enough money to buy a Vespa.
The overarching message of this beautiful, animated story is acceptance and bravery. The movie is full of different loveable and complex characters with varying beliefs, interests, and desires and now fans can find out which character they are most similar to, based on their star sign.
Aries: Giulia Marcovaldo
Giulia becomes friends with Luca and Alberto. Together the trio work to beat her arch-nemesis, Ercole, in The Portorosso cup and win the reward.
Arians are known for having high energy and being competitive, ambitious, and brave. Giulia demonstrates her determined nature as she trains very hard to win The Portorosso Cup. Her energy is shown to be limitless as she cycles around town and excitedly wakes up her friends by pretending to play the trumpet. She also seems to be the only child who is unafraid of Ercole.
Taurus: Uncle Ugo
Uncle Ugo is a mysterious but highly likable character, who Luca's parents want Luca to stay with after they discover he has been to the surface. His introduction is one of the best scenes in Luca.
Taurus personality traits include stability, consistency, and dependability. It is suggested that Uncle Ugo rarely leaves the deep - he is content where he lives and speaks fondly of the deep when explaining to Luca how much he will enjoy it. Additionally, Uncle Ugo's responsible and dependable nature is demonstrated in Luca's parents calling for him in their time of need.
Gemini: Daniela Paguro
Luca's mother, Daniela, is determined to keep Luca safe and believes that the surface is extremely dangerous.
Geminis are known for being intelligent, perceptive, and socially skilled. Daniela demonstrates this when she suspects that something is going on when Luca is secretly going to the surface. Her intelligence is shown when she devises a plan to get a group of young boys wet in order to find Luca. Her skills with other people are apparent throughout as she consistently chats away and puts everyone else at ease.
Cancer: Alberto Scorfano
When Luca meets Alberto, he is blown away by his sense of adventure and bravery. However, there is much more to Alberto than Luca first realizes.
Cancer personality traits include being highly sensitive and having strong attachments to others. Alberto shows this later on in the movie when fans find out that he is lonely because he was abandoned by his father, which is one of the most emotional moments in this Pixar movie. He becomes very jealous of Luca and Giulia's friendship, but fans know this is only because he values his friendship with Luca so much.
Leo: Ercole Visconti
Ercole is Giulia's rival in The Portorosso Cup and he is mistaken for 'Signor Vespa', because he rides a Vespa.
Leos tend to be very competitive, determined, and want to be admired. Ercole demonstrates his desire to be the best throughout the movie: he endeavors to win The Portorosso Cup for the sixth time in a row. It is also clear that he loves to be admired - he says that everyone loves him and asks a group of young people to raise their hand if they like him.
Virgo: Massimo Marcovaldo
Giulia's father, Massimo, takes responsibility for Luca and Alberto while they stay in Portorosso.
Virgos are known for helping others, valuing hard work, and fairness. Massimo is incredibly kind to Luca and Alberto and agrees to provide them with the entry fee for The Portorosso Cup if they help him earn the money by catching fish. Additionally, even though he has spent his life hunting sea monsters, once he realizes Luca and Alberto are sea monsters, he takes the lead in welcoming sea monsters to Portorosso.
Libra: Lorenzo Paguro
Stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan plays Luca's father, Lorenzo, who tends to take more of a backseat when it comes to parenting. However, when he thinks Luca is in trouble, he immediately goes to the surface to save him.
Libras try very hard to be overall good people, they try to avoid conflict but can be indecisive. Upon discovering Luca has been to the surface and deciding he should stay with Uncle Ugo, Lorenzo questions whether they should go through with it - clearly concerned as to whether they are doing the right thing.
Scorpio: Machiavelli
Machiavelli is Massimo's pet cat, who provides lots of humorous moments throughout the film.
Scorpios tend to be very skilled at reading other people and tend to be fearless. Machiavelli demonstrates this when he carefully observes Luca and Alberto and discovers that they are sea monsters before anyone else knows. Although this would probably scare most cats, Machiavelli bravely makes it his mission to uncover their secret and protect himself and his family from them.
Sagittarius: Luca Paguro
The main and best character of the movie, Luca, is both motivated by excitement and adventure and concerned about danger.
Sagittarians are explorers: they seek freedom and knowledge. Fans see Luca demonstrate this throughout the movie - although he is concerned about being safe and doing the 'right' thing, his dream of having a Vesper and experiencing freedom is stronger. When Giulia begins to talk about her school and what she has learned, Luca develops a thirst for knowledge and dreams of becoming a student.
Capricorn: Bruno
Bruno is the name that Alberto gives to the voice in his and Luca's head, who tells them not to do something. When they want to do that thing anyway, they say "Silencio, Bruno!"
Capricorns are known for being dutiful and responsible. They take care of themselves. Bruno is exactly this throughout the movie - when Luca and Alberto are about to do something dangerous, like riding a bike down an extremely steep hill, Bruno is the voice in their head that reminds them of potential harm.
Aquarius: Grandma Paguro
Grandma Paguro is an extremely humorous and mysterious character who seems to have a real soft spot for her grandson.
Aquarius personality traits include having a strange sense of humor, being a little unusual, and not quite fitting into labels or boxes. Grandma Paguro demonstrates these qualities throughout the film: when her family believes the surface is a dangerous place, she is the only one to have been there. She is accepting of both sea monsters and people and is very funny throughout.
Pisces: Ciccio & Guido
For most of the movie, Ciccio and Guido are friends of Ercole and Ercole tells them what to do.
Pisces are known for adapting themselves around different or larger personalities, meaning they can be undervalued. They are also known for being loyal and diligent friends. Ciccio and Guido show these qualities throughout the movie: they follow Ercole's lead and do everything he needs them to, like lying on the ground to provide a soft landing for Ercole's Vesper when it gets knocked over.
