Over nine bloody seasons so far, American Horror Story showcases evildoers who run the gambit from maniacal to self-serving to irresistibly alluring. Series creator Ryan Murphy blends sensuality and fright flawlessly with his terrifying anthology series. American Horror Story revels in excess, melodrama, and glamor.
In addition to bodies, American Horror Story has racked up quite a few memorable villains over the years. With a new season on the horizon, it can be fun to look back at these big, nefarious personalities and find out where they exist within the Zodiac. Be warned, though: some fans might be less-than-pleased with what their star sign says about their propensity for insidious behavior.
Updated on April 14th, 2022 by Gabby Etzel: The most recent season of American Horror Story lives up to its name of Double Feature by giving fans two shorter seasons in one. Naturally, this means that it comes with twice the villains. Alma Gardner from Red Tide and Theta from Death Valley are two wicked wrongdoers that fit the bill for their zodiac alignments, though it may be to the dismay of certain water and air signs.
Aries - Margaret Booth
In 1984, one of the best seasons of American Horror Story, Margaret Booth is introduced as the devoutly religious director of the newly reopened Camp Redwood 14 years after Mr. Jingles massacred nine campers and took one of Margaret's ears. In reality, Margaret framed Mr. Jingles for the murders, which she committed. She reopens Camp Redwood in 1984 in pursuit of more carnage and control.
Margaret Booth is the quintessential hard-headed Aries. These action-oriented Fire signs are real go-getters, amped to complete any task, especially those others deem physically grueling. Evil Aries like Margaret are impatient, bold, and will do whatever it takes to get what they want.
Taurus - The Countess
Countess Elizabeth Johnson is the sexy, chic vampiric owner of Los Angeles's Hotel Cortez in the Hotel season. It's fitting she is played by Lady Gaga. Despite her unceasing power, The Countess is motivated by love, loyalty, and belonging. It's no wonder she kidnaps children, turns them into bloodsuckers, and keeps them in the hotel as her offspring.
Tauruses are possessive Earth signs known to stick close to home and keep their loved ones near. Represented by the bull, Tauruses will charge when provoked, just like The Countess.
Gemini - Dr. Oliver Thredson/Bloody Face
Dr. Oliver Thredson is a psychiatrist at Briarcliff in the Asylum season, and one of the most easily-spotted Geminis in AHS. Thredson has a deep, dark secret: he is also the heinous serial killer Bloody Face. Bloody Face brutally assaults and murders multiple women, and Thredson hides his inner demons behind a wall of stoicism.
Thredson and his alter ego are reminiscent of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The dual personality is part of what makes Dr. Thredson one of the worst TV psychiatrists of all time, but it is also characteristic for Geminis. Symbolized by the twins, these Air signs are adept at hiding their inner feelings.
Cancer - Tate Langdon
One of Evan Peters's many villainous characters in American Horror Story, Tate Langdon is responsible for the horrific school shooting depicted in the Murder House season. Tate's ghost haunts the Harmon house, seducing the Harmons' daughter Violet. Tate also assaulting her mother Vivien while donning a rubber suit. It's revealed in the Apocalypse season Tate and Vivien are the parents of Michael Langdon, the Anti-Christ.
The emotionally evocative Tate Langdon is a textbook Cancer. These sensitive Water signs are homebodies through and through. Cancers are reticent to share their deep well of feelings – both good and bad – with others.
Leo - Kai Anderson
Kai Anderson is the instigator of chaos in Cult, a self-obsessed madman who craves power. In the wake of the 2016 US presidential election, Kai starts a cult in a small Michigan town. Ultimately unattached to any political ideology, Kai's objective is disruption - just like the Joker.
No offense to Leos, but those who fall under this Fire sign are the most likely to start cults. Leos really enjoy being the center of attention, and they are also skilled at charming people. Leos with bad intentions know how to make the most of their gregarious skill set.
Virgo - Dandy Mott
Dandy Mott is a narcissistic, sociopathic man-child who stirs up trouble for Elsa Mars's circus troupe in the Freak Show season. Dandy's mother caters to his every need, and when he doesn't get what he wants, Dandy turns homicidal. Dandy becomes obsessed with Twisty the Clown and the conjoined Tattler Twins, seeing them as objects designed for his own personal amusement.
Virgos are the perfectionists of the Zodiac. At their worst, these intellectual Earth signs live in constant judgment of themselves and others. While practical, Virgos are also very fussy when plans don't materialize to their liking – just like Dandy Mott.
Libra - Theta
AHS: Double Feature is a season that is brimming with cultural references and historical figures, but Theta is a villain that the writers have built from scratch--A terrifying one, at that. Theta is a human-alien hybrid that performs human experimentation at Area 51 in hopes of finding a survivable part-human-part-alien specimen to take over the planet.
Libras live in pursuit of harmony. While Theta does plan to eliminate the human race, she still fulfills this quality brilliantly in her mission to find harmony between human and alien DNA. Not to mention, Libras are one of the most intelligent signs. There's no doubt that Theta's superior alien intellect makes her one of the most obvious Libras in American Horror Story.
Scorpio - Michael Langdon
Michael Langdon triggers the end of the world in Apocalypse, and the quotes that he says along the way make him the best villain in American Horror Story. The son of Tate Langdon's ghost and Vivien Harmon, Michael grows up to become a powerful wizard who is also the Anti-Christ. After being born, Michael is raised by his grandmother, Constance, eventually being recruited by Satanists who understand his potential to destroy the planet.
Carnal, intense Scorpios may not appreciate being compared to the Anti-Christ, but this Water sign sure knows how to implement a reckoning if anyone upsets them. Scorpios have endless patience and willpower, giving them the strength to outmaneuver almost anyone.
Sagittarius - Twisty The Clown
Clowns are known for their outgoing, slapstick nature. Even though he's a homicidal maniac, Twisty the Clown from Freak Show loves to put on a show for an enthralled audience. Beneath his terrifying mask, Twisty hides a hideously deformed face, putting him on par with classic horror slayers like Jason Voorhees.
Restless and cheerful Sagittariuses are the Zodiac's resident clowns. They love making people laugh, sharing tricks, and forging their own path.
Capricorn - Madame Delphine LaLaurie
Fiona Goode digs up the cursed Madame Delphine LaLaurie in Coven, an infamous former slave owner from New Orleans who brutally tortured and murdered black people forced into bondage by her family. When she was alive, LaLaurie hosted lavish parties in her home while keeping victims locked up in her basement.
Traditionally-minded Capricorns sometimes struggle with new concepts and ideas. These practical Earth signs are definitely resourceful, but they are not well-versed in innovation. When they turn evil, Capricorns use their status as trustworthy community figures to hurt others.
Aquarius - Dr. Arthur Arden
In Asylum, Dr. Arthur Arden is a former Nazi war criminal hiding out at Briarcliff. While at the mental institution. Dr. Arden takes advantage of patients, using them as guinea pigs in his gruesome experiences. The forested area around Briarcliff is occupied by all the altered humans tortured by Dr. Arden.
Aquariuses possess the mad scientist streak brought to life by Dr. Arden. When oriented toward good work, Aquariuses are the resident innovators striving to make the world a better place. When their intentions go south, these Air signs wreak havoc while refusing to take responsibility for their actions.
Pisces - Alma Gardner
Leave it to American Horror Story to make a little girl into one of the most malicious villains that the show has ever seen. When Alma Gardner, a violin prodigy, is not drinking the blood of innocent people, she is manipulating her mother into taking a little black pill that will turn her into a barely-human, bloodthirsty monster.
All Pisces are artists at heart. Theater, music, painting--Whatever it may be, Pisces adore it. The same goes for Alma with her violin. However, she also uses manipulation, another classic water sign trait, to get what she wants. She manipulates so flawlessly at such a young age without ever being taught how, making a Pisces sun sign the only reasonable explanation for her behavior.
