Disney's live-action Alice in Wonderland characters have unique personalities that match up with the zodiac signs. The children's books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll inspired numerous film and TV productions. The most famous adaptations are the animated and live-action versions from Disney. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, the 2010 live-action film from Disney, took a different approach than the 1951 animated version. It follows Alice Kingsleigh, a teenager forced to choose between two life paths when she is brought back to Underland to help bring down the Red Queen. Alice's journey helps her discover what she wants out of her life.

Though Alice leads the film, many other characters influence the story's sequence of events. The live-action Alice in Wonderland re-imagines many characters from the novels, bringing minor figures into more prominent roles. With such an eclectic ensemble, it's not surprising that there are at least 12 different personalities representing the 12 different astrological signs among them. From the multifaceted Gemini to the mysterious Scorpio, each character in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland corresponds with the traits of a zodiac sign to which viewers will relate.

Aries: The Red Queen

Alice Through the Looking Glass - Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter)

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland characters include the Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland combines these characters into the Red Queen, the Aries-like antagonist. She expresses herself boldly, coming on a little strong. Though she goes about it in questionable ways, the Red Queen is a natural-born leader. She can make people listen to her due to her leadership abilities. Her presence is so strong that everything shifts when she walks into a room.

Additionally, the Red Queen gets misperceived in the same way an Aries does. Often, Aries are looked at as aggressive; in reality, they tend to be competitive. The Red Queen has this competitive nature to her, pushing to dominate all of Underland. Her motivation is simply competitiveness. She wants to beat her sister, the White Queen, at any cost.

Taurus: Absolem The Caterpillar

Absolem the Caterpillar smokes a hookah in front of a mushroom in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

Absolem, the Caterpillar displays rational, grounded, and dependable traits like Tauruses. Absolem is an oracle, providing guidance and answers to everyone he deems worthy. It's his rational way of speaking and thinking that allows him to communicate well with others. He is constantly working hard to help make Underland better. Tauruses come across as stubborn at times, but stubbornness isn't always a bad thing. Absolem helps others discover more about themselves by asking them repetitive questions. Absolem asking Alice, "Who are you?" multiple times allows her to reflect on the answer.

Gemini: Alice Kingsleigh

Alice Kingsleigh wears her hair up in curls with a blue lacy dress.

Alice in Wonderland characters always include the titular protagonist. Alice Kingsleigh encapsulates the dualistic personality of Geminis. Alice wants all the experiences that life has to offer. She doesn't want to be forced into one life role over another. Her multifaceted identity and social skills allow her to convincingly go undercover at the Red Queen's castle. She then returns to lead the White Queen's army.

Alice also thinks complexly about the world like Geminis. She goes outside the box by questioning social norms like corsets and marriage. When she gets into Underland, she asks questions about how and why the world works the way it does. This comes across as annoying at times, but it shows her passion for learning new information.

Cancer: Bayard The Bloodhound

Bayard the Bloodhound looks up at the camera with a chain attached to his spiked collar.

Bayard the bloodhound represents the Cancer zodiac sign. Though he works for the Red Queen, Bayard's allegiance lies with the White Queen's resistance. He only follows the orders of the Knave of Hearts because he loves and wants to protect his wife and kids. This puts Bayard in a position where he must publicly align himself with a monarchy he doesn't agree with. In secret, Bayard works as a double agent. By helping the resistance, he remains loyal to his values. This deep love and loyalty perfectly describe Cancers.

Bayard's verbal emotional vulnerability with others also matches that of Cancers. When he meets Alice, he doesn't hesitate to tell her about his family. Later, he sadly apologizes to the White Queen for taking Alice to the Red Queen's castle. Later, he shows excitement as he carries Mallymkun the Dormouse into battle.

Leo: Mallymkun The Dormouse

Mallymkun the Dormouse wears shackles and stands on gray bricks

Mallymkun, the Dormouse represents Leos among the Alice in Wonderland characters. Much like a Leo, Mallymkun displays bravery and fearlessness. Despite her small size, she is a sergeant of the White Queen's resistance. She's ready to sword fight at a moment's notice. Also, she isn't afraid to put herself on the front line of the battle against the Red Queen's army. Additionally, Mallymkun displays the confidence of a Leo. When she first meets Alice, she isn't afraid to accuse her of not being the correct Alice. Mallymkun is confident in her ability to tell the difference. Despite ultimately being incorrect about Alice, Mallymkun is never afraid to speak up.

Virgo: White Rabbit

Nivens McTwisp, more commonly called the White Rabbit, displays many traits of a Virgo. He's highly organized and responsible. He tracks down the different Alices until he finds Alice Kingsleigh. His character is responsible for luring Alice into Underland in enough time for her to save them. As a routine-oriented character, Nivins keeps track of the amount of time until Frabjous Day. Through his efficiency, he also locates the Vorpal Sword and passes this information along to Alice. Without Nivins's Virgo traits, everyone in Underland would've died at the hands of the Jabberwocky.

Libra: The White Queen

Anne Hathaway as the White Queen in Alice in Wonderland

Among the movie's characters, Alice in Wonderland's White Queen is looked at as the pinnacle of kindness, positivity, and harmony. These are common traits associated with Libras. Her "wishful thinking" was powerful enough to function as a potion ingredient. When Bayard comes to her in shame for taking Alice to the Red Queen's castle, the White Queen immediately forgives him.

The White Queen's drive for peace is also seen on the battlefield. Despite the damage done, she gives the Red Queen another chance to choose peace before starting the fight. She's rebuffed by her sister. Then, after reclaiming the crown, she refuses to kill her sister. Instead, she banishes the Red Queen. This penchant for peace above all else is common with Libras.

Scorpio: Chessur the Cheshire Cat

The Cheshire Cat's face and smile blend into the sky with branches of flowers off to the side.

Just like a Scorpio's tendency toward mystery, Chessur the Cheshire Cat is a creature in Alice in Wonderland that can disappear and reappear at will. He enjoys playing pranks and amusing others. His emotional intuition and desire for control do not make him the most liked character. The Mad Hatter feels betrayed by Chessur's habit of leaving in dangerous situations. This simply goes back to the fact that Chessur can't control dangerous situations. Despite his desire to protect himself, Chessur will still help others when he feels he can do so safely. This is seen when he offers to heal Alice's wounds caused by the Bandersnatch.

Sagittarius: Charles Kingsleigh

Not all Alice in Wonderland characters receive a lot of screen time. Charles Kingsleigh may only be at the beginning of the movie, but he still makes an impact as the quintessential Sagittarius. In his brief appearance, Charles is shown to be adventurous and wise. He states to his team members, "The only way to achieve the impossible is to think that it is possible." This independent and forward way of thinking helps him succeed in his trading company. On top of this, he shapes the out-of-the-box way that his daughter thinks.

Capricorn: Jabberwocky

wonderland jabberwocky

The Jabberwocky is a character pulled straight from an eponymous poem featured in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass. While most people think of the Jabberwocky as a villain, he's really just a dragon following orders. His traits in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland match up with those of Capricorns. He is tough and defends his people. He initiates the fight when needed. While these traits are used by the Red Queen to harm others, they aren't inherently negative. Like Capricorns, he's simply focused on protecting his own above all else.

Aquarius: Tweedledee & Tweedledum

Alice in Wonderland's Tweedledee and Tweedledum are the characters who display Aquarius traits. They pride themselves on being unique and fun. The twins also argue among themselves frequently, not engaging with their surroundings. This makes them seem distant from the events of the film. Despite this, they are creative and imaginative in their thinking. When they work together, they take down the Red Queen's knights without any difficulty. Like Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Aquariuses can make great strides when they get past their independent nature.

Pisces: The Mad Hatter

Few Alice in Wonderland characters are as iconic as the Mad Hatter. He is also a Pisces through and through. He finds himself daydreaming often. The things he says don't always make sense, but that's okay. He's unapologetically himself, and others enjoy his unique mind.

Though the Mad Hatter is in his own world sometimes, that doesn't prevent him from being empathetic toward others. He cares about his friends. He refuses to give up Alice when it would be easier for him. Instead, he allows the Red Queen's minions to take him back to her castle. His loyalty and heart bring the resistance together. As such, the Mad Hatter character is the heart of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
