What Is True Lies About?

Harry and Helen in True Lies

Harry and Helen are your average-married couple. They have three children and both work, resulting in them finding themselves growing farther and farther apart from one another. Helen works a job as a language professor that drains her due to the fact that it keeps her living the same daily routine over and over. Her life turns upside down, however, when she finds out that her husband does not live such a boring life. Instead, Harry is a first-class international spy for a U.S. intelligence agency called Omega Sector. In an even more shocking turn of events, Helen finds herself wanting to join her husband and become a spy herself.

She knocks the socks off the agency, thanks to the skills she developed in Tae Bo and yoga. Before she knows it, she is joining Harry and his team of top-notch operatives on covert missions all across the world. All the while, Helen and her husband are keeping their children in the dark and their marriage alive thanks to their exciting new life.

Is The True Lies TV Show Based On A Movie?

Harry in True Lies

If the title or the plot of True Lies sounds somewhat familiar, you’re not experiencing a strange case of deja vu. The show is based off of James Cameron’s hit action-comedy film of the same name. The movie followed a similar plot, with Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) living a secret double life as a spy, while his family is kept in the dark. Harry’s life becomes even more complicated when he finds out his wife is considering having an affair. Before he can worry too much about this, though, he and his wife are kidnapped by the target of one of his missions.

The “stories based on other stories” story doesn’t end here, as True Lies (the movie) is based on another movie - a 1991 French comedy called La Totale.
