Find out what new elements Transformers: EarthSpark brings to the popular franchise and where to watch the new animated series.

Transformers: EarthSpark features many of the favorite Transformers from past films and TV series including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron. The premise of the series revolves around the Malto family relocating from Philadelphia to the more rural Witwicky, a familiar name to followers of the Transformers franchise. The 13-year-old Robby Malto struggles to adjust to life in his new town, while his younger sister Mo has a far more positive outlook on what adventures may await them in their new surroundings. Just as Robby gives into his despair and tries to run away, he and his sister encounter an entirely new breed of Transformers in a glowing cave. The earth-born Transformers with the catchy names of Twitch and Thrash are known as Terrans and in an interesting turn of events, the two children are bonded to their new robotic friends after touching an Emberstone in the cave. Much of the first 10 episodes of Transformers: EarthSpark consists of Robby, Mo, Twitch, and Thrash battling mysterious villains with the help of Optimus Prime and even Megatron who has turned against the remaining rogue Decepticons on Earth.

How Does Transformers: EarthSpark Expand the Transformers Universe?

Transformers: EarthSpark

Transformers: EarthSpark takes place years after the war between the Autobots and Decepticons is over, and as a result viewers see formerly evil Decepticons working toward common goals with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and their human allies. Although we have seen Transformers switch factions numerous times in other movies and TV series, Transformers: EarthSpark blurs the lines between good and evil in the Transformers world. Dr. Meridian known as Mandroid, is a human scientist who helped the Autobots in the war, but as a result of friendly fire loses an arm and becomes determined to rid Earth of all Cybertronians. In the first episode, as he kidnaps Twitch and Thrash, viewers are introduced to Dr. Meridian menacingly voiced by Diedrich Bader from The Drew Carey Show who also voiced Batman in several animated films and TV series. G.H.O.S.T. also plays a key role in Transformers: EarthSpark, but the organization's inhumane treatment of Decepticon prisoners in the past has them not fully trusted by the Transformers or by Twitch and Thrash who are tempting subjects for new research.

When action scenes break out in Transformers: EarthSpark, the battles are brief but well-choreographed and convincingly animated. However, the violence is kept at a minimum in the series, and instead, it's primarily a light-hearted family-friendly story of a cohesive family unit accepting a pair of Terran Transformers in a way not seen in Transformers fiction. In other movies, we often see young human characters escaping family problems and befriending Transformers that they discover on earth, but their robot friends are initially kept secret from authority figures. In Transformers: EarthSpark, Twitch and Thrash essentially become siblings to Robby and Mo. With the support of their parents, Dot and Alex, the four characters learn more about their strange bonding that causes its share of issues as the human children return to school without Twitch and Thrash.

There are plenty of storylines for the showrunners to explore and questions to be answered as the first season of Transformers: EarthSpark unfolds. Traditionally, how exactly Transformers reproduce has been a matter for debate among fans, and whether they can be created by humans in labs, or require a mysterious spark of life that only exists in other parts of the universe. How precisely Twitch and Thrash were created on Earth and how they came to be so intimately linked with Robby and Mo is certainly a subject writers can shed more light on in future episodes.
