Rian Johnson's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery released worldwide on Netflix on December 23rd, 2022, and was met with both critical and audience acclaim. The sequel to Knives Out (2019) quickly became Netflix's third most-watched movie of all time, in just over a week since the film debuted on the streaming service.

Now, acclaimed director Rian Johnson, also known for directing some of the highest-rated episodes of Breaking Bad, is making a triumphant return to television.

His new mystery-comedy series, Poker Face, led by Natasha Lyonne and an all-star supporting cast, is coming to streaming on Peacock on Thursday, January 26, 2023 - just a month after Glass Onion's global release.

What Is Poker Face About?

Natasha Lyonne as Charlie in Poker Face

Poker Face, according to official descriptions, follows the journey of Charlie (Natasha Lyonne) - a woman who works in a casino. Charlie has a supernatural ability to detect when a person is lying, and goes on a cross-country journey in her Plymouth Barracuda car, playing amateur detective.

According to Rian Johnson, Poker Face follows a new case every episode, which airs weekly - similar in format to classic detective shows such as Columbo (via Vanity Fair). With each episode, Charlie interacts with an all-star cast of characters and a unique case to solve.

Who Stars In Poker Face?

Poker Face has a large ensemble cast, thanks to its weekly case format. As confirmed by the trailer, the series is led by Natasha Lyonne, and stars frequent Rian Johnson collaborators Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Noah Segan - who also made cameos in the Knives Out movies, as well as Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

In addition to Lyonne as the lead, the series also stars Stephanie Hsu, Adrien Brody, David Castañeda, Chloë Sevigny, Cherry Jones, and Rhea Perlman - as well as many more. The full cast will be revealed upon the show's release on streaming.

From there, six new episodes will be uploaded to the streamer on a weekly basis, concluding on March 9th and totaling 10 episodes.

Is Poker Face In The Same Universe As Glass Onion?

Poker Face star Natasha Lyonne made a brief cameo in Rian Johnson's new movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The actress can be seen on a Zoom call with detective Benoit Blanc, as part of a group playing Among Us with Blanc. Natasha can be seen alongside basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, as well as the late entertainment and musical theater icons, Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim.

The appearance of Natasha Lyonne, especially just prior to the release of Johnson's next project, led many to question whether the Knives Out movies and Poker Face are in a shared universe. With both Johnson projects being mystery-comedies, it is a valid question. However, it seems unlikely to be the case.

In the Zoom call scene, Natasha's on-screen name is "Natasha," meaning she is likely making a cameo as a fictionalized version of herself. Given that the official name for Lyonne's character in Poker Face is Charlie, they are likely two different characters.
