Like in previous Pokémon games, the much sought after Shiny Charm is attainable in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, obtaining it is not a quick or easy task. Players who are looking to increase their odds of finding Shiny Pokémon will have their work cut out for them before they can reap the rewards.

The Shiny Charm was introduced during Generation 5 of Pokémon, in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, and has been present in every generation since. Depending on the generation and other circumstances, a Shiny Charm can increase the odds of finding shiny Pokémon from 1/1,365 to 1/100. Shiny Charms are especially sought after by players who enjoy Shiny hunting and are collectors of Shiny Pokémon.

Three Pokémon also require a trade to evolve; however, these Pokémon can also be found in the wild. Their final evolutions are Gengar, Slowking, and Scizor. Players will also need to use the trade function in order to obtain the two Scarlet and Violet starter Pokémon that they did not choose at the beginning of the game.

Once a player has completed their Pokédex in Scarlet and Violet, they do not automatically obtain the Shiny Charm. They first must go and speak to Professor Jacq in the Academy's Biology Room. Professor Jacq will acknowledge that the player has completed their Pokédex and will award the player with the Shiny Charm. Using the Shiny Charm will increase a player's odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon to 1/2048. Players can increase these odds to 1/683 using a Shiny Charm and eating an item with a Sparkling Power Level 3. Clearing 60 or more Pokémon during a mass outbreak on top of the other two conditions brings the odds to 1/512.

Players looking to truly complete their Pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will have some serious work ahead of them, but the reward of a Shiny Charm can be worth it in the end. After collecting 400 Pokémon through the wild and trading, players can begin their journey of Shiny Hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with increased odds. Completing a Pokédex is one of the many ways to get the most out of the multiple storylines of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
