One great way to get into the festive spirit in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is by catching the snowflake-shaped pocket monster — Cryogonal. As one might expect, this Ice-type Crystallizing Pokémon prefers to live in the frigid wastelands of North Paldea, namely the Glaseado Mountain biome. Cryogonal does not have any evolutions but wields one of the highest Special Defense IVs of any pocket monster. As a result, many fans might place this Crystallizing Pokémon in their top-10 tier lists for Ice-type Pokémon.

To catch Cryogonal, Trainers must make their way to Glaseado Mountain on the northern side of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Paldea region map. According to its Habitat Description, this Ice-type Crystallizing Pokémon "lives near mountain peaks" near the center of the Glaseado Mountain biome. In other words, players can find this pocket monster along the snowy slopes that lead to elevated lookout points. If Trainers are struggling to find one, they can cook and eat a Master Decadent Sandwich or Ultra Sushi Sandwich, both of which provide the Encounter Power: Ice Lv. 2 buff.

Cryogonal Wild Encounter and Habitat Location in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Glaseado Mountain is a biome that serves as a midgame to an endgame transition area. Therefore, Trainers can expect that the Wild Cryogonals they encounter within the region will be at least Level 39 or higher in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. An Ultra Ball of Quick Ball should be enough to capture this Crystallizing Pokémon instantly. However, if players must battle with the pocket monster, it is recommended they use Pokémon with Fire-, Rock, Steel-type, and Fighting-type Movesets. As mentioned above, Trainers should remember that Cryogonal's Special Defense is substantially higher than most Pokémon, so Moves that make contact with this opponent during battle will likely be more effective.

According to Game8, catching or causing Cryogonal to faint can yield a TM crafting material known as Cryogonal Ice in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Cryogonal Ice is primarily used for crafting TM135 Ice Beam, a Move that deals substantial damage and has a chance to freeze opponents. To unlock this recipe, players can find the TM on one of the islands far north of the North Province (Area One) Pokécenter. Another copy of Ice Beam can also be found on the small grassy island in the elevated river that divides West Province (Area Three) from Glaseado Mountain, south of the Glaseado Mountain Pokécenter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
