A brand new trailer for Where The Crawdads Sing has been released, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones as a young woman who becomes the key suspect in a murder. Set to adapt Delia Owens' New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, Where the Crawdads Sing will see Edgar-Jones star as Kya Clark, who has lived in isolation and fended for herself since childhood. Kya is frequently taunted by the residents of her local town, who refer to her as the "Marsh Girl." While attempting to adjust to a new 'normal' life, Kya begins to fall for two men from the town, catapulting her into an all-new type of fight for survival after one of the men is found dead, and she is named as the key suspect.

First announced back in 2020, Where The Crawdads Sing was picked up by Reese Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine, after the Big Little Lies star featured the novel in her personal book club. Director Olivia Newman has helmed the much-anticipated project, alongside Lucy Alibar who has written the screenplay, with the story expected to follow the same narrative as the 2018 book. Where The Crawdads Sing also stars Taylor John Smith as Tate Walker, Harris Dickinson as Chase Andrews, Michael Hyatt as Mabel, Sterling Macer Jr as Jumpin’ and David Strathairn as Tom Milton.

Now, Sony has released the first Where The Crawdads Sing trailer, which provides the first proper look at Edgar-Jones as Kya. The trailer shows a young Kya, and hints at the trauma she experienced in childhood that ultimately lead to her years of isolation, before showing her as an adult. A number of clips tease the relationships that Kya begins to form with Tate and Chase, before teasing the details of the grisly murder. The trailer also features an original song from Taylor Swift titled "Carolina," inspired by the film's North Carolina setting. Check out the official trailer and poster below.

Where the Crawdads Sing Poster

A number of new Where The Crawdads Sing images recently offered some exciting glimpses of how the hit novel had been adapted for the screen. However, this is the first official footage that has been released from the upcoming adaptation. Owens' book enjoyed widespread success following its debut, with many immediately calling for an adaptation of the mysterious romantic thriller, which seemed to lend itself well to a big screen version. News of Edgar-Jones' casting for the role of Kya was largely well-received, with many praising her previous works, such as Normal People (which was also adapted from a popular novel) and 2019's War of the Worlds series.

Following the recent success of Edgar-Jones' latest project alongside Sebastian Stan, Fresh, many are excited to see what this rising star will bring to her latest role. With just a few months to go now until release, it certainly seems as though audiences could be in for a thrill as they follow Kya's battle with a terrifying world that will force her to fight for her survival. Edgar-Jones' previous role as Normal People's Marianne — a quiet, isolated young woman — will no doubt help to inform her take on the lonely and misunderstood "Marsh Girl," Kya. Audiences will see how the actor takes on this brand new character when Where The Crawdads Sing hits theaters in July.
