The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion, and as it prepares for the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans are also waiting for the first Thor: Love and Thunder trailer– but when will it arrive? The MCU is currently in its highly-anticipated Phase 4, which is covering both movies and TV shows, and in addition to introducing new characters, events, and concepts, it’s continuing the stories of already established heroes, as is the case of Thor, who’s coming back with a fourth solo adventure.

Thor is responsible for both some of the best and the worst MCU movies, and his reinvention post-Endgame should be completed by his fourth chapter, which makes the clamour for the first Thor: Love & Thunder trailer all the more understandable. Like many other movies during the coronavirus pandemic, and especially Marvel movies, Thor: Love and Thunder has been delayed a couple of times, with its original release date being November 2021, but time is running out for the first teaser. With the Thor 4 release date now set for a July 8, 2022 release, it's not unreasonable to consider the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer somewhat overdue.

That said, the marketing campaign for Thor: Love and Thunder has officially begun with the reveal of a new look for Chris Hemsworth's Thor, via LEGO sets and Hasbro figures in February 2022, which only makes the anticipation for a trailer grow. Marvel tends to release its teasers five months before the release of its movies, though in the case of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the first trailer arrived almost four months before its release. Marvel hasn't said when the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer will release, but given previous Marvel movie timelines it should most likely release in the coming month.

What To Expect From The First Thor: Love & Thunder Trailer

At this point, it seems unlikely Marvel will delay Thor: Love and Thunder again, and even though reshoots were confirmed to happen in March, that shouldn’t be an impediment for a teaser release – after all, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still doing reshoots, and two trailers have already been released. Precedent there suggests Thor 4's first teaser would already be in the can by this point. So perhaps Marvel are protecting their spoilers as long as possible? The trailer should build on what is already known about Thor: Love and Thunder. It would be reasonable to expect a first real look at Natalie Portman's Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor, perhaps Russell Crowe's cameo as Zeus, and Christian Bale playing villain Gorr the God Butcher. There will presumably also be a good look at the newly rebuilt Asgard, and some hint of what actually brings Thor back to Earth after his "road trip" with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The lack of plot details has only made the anticipation for the trailer grow, and even more so after all the fan theories that have popped up regarding Jane’s story, Thor’s fate, and how Gorr’s story will fit in this already established universe. The marketing strategy for Thor: Love and Thunder has been unlike any other Marvel movie, and while the window between the first teaser/trailer and the release date has fluctuated with the MCU’s most recent projects, Thor 4 is still a special case. Supposing that Marvel won’t delay the movie any further, the first teaser or trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder should arrive before the end of March or on the first days of April, though by now it also risks overlapping with Marvel's advertising campaign for Doctor Strange 2, which is scheduled for a May 6 release.
