Warning! Spoilers ahead for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania lays the groundwork for the Multiverse Saga, here's where it fits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's overall timeline. Marvel Studios kicks off Phase 5 with the Peyton Reed-directed threequel, which sees Team Ant-Man face their biggest adversary yet — Kang the Conqueror. After the events of Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania is the next big step in tackling MCU's burgeoning multiverse narrative.

Dubbed the most important MCU film since Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania properly introduces the Multiverse Saga's big bad, Kang the Conqueror. Unlike its predecessors, much of the threequel takes place in the MCU's Quantum Realm which has been described as the basement of the multiverse and exists outside time and space. Still, since the main franchise remains largely in one universe of the multiverse, there's interest in where Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania takes place in the MCU's timeline.

Like many MCU projects, it isn't explicitly said when the threequel takes place. Luckily, it's possible to pinpoint when Team Ant-Man's meeting with Kang happens. Since helping the Avengers undo the snap in 2023, Scott Lang's popularity has skyrocketed, leading to his new memoir, Look Out For The Little Guy!. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which takes place in early 2025, mentions Scott's book tour, indicating that the events of the threequel aren't too far away. He reveals in the movie that it has been a few years since the defeat of Thanos, which means Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania likely also happens sometime in 2025.

This is actually backed up by Reed's comments in an interview about Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. While speaking with Nerdbunker, the filmmaker revealed that in his new film, Cassie Lang would be around 18 years old. For context, Cassie was already 15 years old during the events of Avengers: Endgame which means that a few years have passed since the defeat of Thanos when Team Ant-Man gets sucked into the Quantum Realm and faces off with Kang the Conqueror. This checks out with Scott's comment at the start of the threequel.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicks off the MCU's exciting Phase 5, which delves deeper into the specifics of the Multiverse Saga. Its events aren't too far ahead from Phase 4, however. As previously mentioned, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever happens in early 2025, and it takes place before Team Ant-Man's trip to the Quantum Realm. Meanwhile, despite the events of Thor: Love and Thunder mostly going down off-world, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore previously revealed that the films were "potentially concurrent" with each other.

One thing is clear, however, by the time Scott, Cassie, Hope, Hank, and Janet face Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals have long happened. All big multiversal incidents in MCU Phase 4 have gone down as well. That includes Peter Parker meeting his variants and fighting multiversal villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Stephen Strange traveling the multiverse and coming face-to-face with Earth-838's Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
