Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that The Wheel Of Time book series contains twelve novels. The series consists of a prequel, fourteen novels, and two companion books.

Amazon's The Wheel Of Time television adaptation is set for a 2021 release on Prime Video. The show is based on a fantasy novel series written by Robert Jordan (James Oliver Rigney Jr.'s pen name). The main series totals fifteen novels, the final three of which were completed by Brandon Sanderson following Jordan's untimely passing. FXX previously took a shot at adapting the books for television in 2015 with Winter Dragon, a pilot that never made it to series due to issues with Jordan's estate.

Amazon's estate-permitted adaptation is scheduled to premiere in 2021. The network confirmed the release window with a video from The Wheel of Time's official Twitter today. The production wrapped filming in May and has already been picked up for a second season. See the tweet below:

The tweet reads, "even legends can have a beginning," a new slogan for the series that wasn't used for the books. With its similar marketing, title, and logo design, Amazon is clearly taking another shot at making the next Game of Thrones with The Wheel of Time. Virtually every streaming and broadcast network has attempted as much with epic fantasy adaptations of varying quality, but none have yet managed to recreate its success. While the conditions that made GoT a phenomenon of the zeitgeist are impossible to recreate, the extensive Wheel of Time novels and companion books offer a richly detailed world and a large cast of characters with the potential to draw viewers in.

Rosamund Pike has been cast as the series lead, Moiraine Damodred, accompanied by a supporting cast that includes Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran, Josha Stradowski as Rand al'Thor, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, and Madeleine Madden. Amazon's official synopsis for the show can be read below:

The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine, a member of the powerful, all-woman organization of channelers (magic users) called the Aes Sedai, who takes a group of five young people from their home village following an attack by the forces of the Dark One, an evil entity who seeks to destroy the Pattern (Existence). Among these five, she believes one might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, an ancient hero and powerful channeler who is prophesied either to save the world or destroy it.
