Amazon releases a sneak peek at The Wheel of Time season 2 in a new trailer teasing the battles to come. Based on the epic fantasy series by Robert Jordan, the show is created by Rafe Judkins and produced by actor Rosamund Pike. Pike also stars as Moiraine Damodred, a member of the Aes Sedai, a powerful organization of women with the ability to channel the One Power, which drives the Wheel. Amazon executives were so confident in the show, season 2 was greenlit months ahead of season 1's release. Now that season 2 of Wheel of Time wrapped filming in May, likewise, Amazon has greenlit season 3 ahead of its premiere.

Season 1 had been building up to Moiraine finding out which of the Two Rivers villagers was The Dragon Reborn. Upon discovering that it was Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski), the two travelled to the Eye of the World to confront the Dark One. After fending off the Dark One's temptation to make his deepest dreams reality if he gives his powers to the Shadow, Rand uses the One Power to imprison the Dark One once more, but not before Moiraine's connection to the One Power is severed and Rand goes into hiding, fearing the madness that befell the original Dragon. Meanwhile, five female channelers, including Egwene (Madeleine Madden) and Nyn (Zoë Robbins) single-handledly destroy the siege of Trollocs attacking Fal Dara, killing all the channelers in the process but Egwene, who's able to resuscitate a badly-injured Nyn. Season 1 left viewers with plenty of questions, including why Egwene suddenly became so powerful, leaving many curious to see where the show would go next.

What The Wheel Of Time Trailer Reveals About Season 2's Story

Moiraine speaks in the trailer with grave portent that their defeat of the Dark One was temporary, and that they may have awoken the Forsaken. The Forsaken are among the biggest threats in Jordan's books, and were previously mentioned by Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney) as channelers who sold their souls to the Dark One in exchange for immortality. Given their importance in the series, introducing them now is likely, and the image of a dark and bloody woman is likely Lanfear, one of the most powerful of the Forsaken. The trailer puts significant focus on the emotional struggles the characters will face in season 2, showing Mat (Barney Harris) quietly suffering, possibly due to his psychic attachment to a parasitic dagger, the capture of Rand and Loial (Hammed Animashaun) both strapped to wheels, and Egwene screaming fiercely in battle.

Season 2 will likely introduce many other characters key to the ongoing story, including Elayne Trakand (Ceara Coveney) a major love interest for Rand, daughter-heir of the Kingdom of Andor and a character who possesses the unique ability to influence the future. With a massive world to explore, a deep and rich lore, and 13 books not including short stories and a prequel to pull from, The Wheel of Time has a massive amount of story left to adapt. The trailer for season 2 gives a glimpse that the show's already ambitious nature has only grown larger.
