The Wheel of Time season 2 episodes are already well into post-production and their status has been revealed by an Amazon executive. The show, which is adapted from the fantasy novel series of the same name by Robert Jordan (with the final three entries posthumously completed by Brandon Sanderson), premiered on Amazon Prime on November 19 this year. The 8-episode first season is specifically adapted from the novel The Eye of the World, the first of 14 books. The Wheel of Time stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, who belongs to a group of magical women called the Aes Sedai. She gathers a group of young people, one of whom she believes to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy the world.

The Wheel of Time, which also stars Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, and Daniel Henney, met with instant success on the platform. The first three episodes premiered simultaneously and across their combined run time earned a total of 1.16 billion minutes watched by ravenous fans. Predicting this success, Amazon already renewed Wheel of Time season 2 in May, months before the season 1 premiere.

With the season 1 finale looming, fans are wondering exactly when they will get to spend more time with these iconic characters. TVLine spoke with Vernon Sanders, who is the Head of Global TV at Amazon Studios, and he pulled back the curtain a bit on how the production of The Wheel of Time season 2 is going. Although Sanders explained they don't have an idea of what date it might premiere, the "first cuts of the first episodes" are already completed and under review. Read the full quote below:

We’re still talking about [when season 2 will premiere]. Rafe and his team just sent us their first cuts of the first episodes of Season 2, and I cannot wait for the audience to see what we have in store.

When Sanders says "first episodes," he is likely referencing that either 2 or 3 episodes are in this stage of production. Given the short seasons of this epic fantasy series, this means that, even at the minimum estimate, the show is nearing completion on at least 25% of its episodes, making great progress. For now, the only other thing that is confirmed about The Wheel of Time season 2 is the addition of several new cast members including Guy Roberts, Arnas Fedaravicius, and Gregg Chillingirian.

The Wheel of Time has risen to become one of the top streaming series of the year, so season 2 will be hotly anticipated. Hopefully, once the finale airs tomorrow and audiences have finally been given access to the full plot arc of season 1, there will be more of a sense of what to expect going forward. The producers will be more willing to share hints and tidbits about season 2, and fans who have read the novels will be able to better track how far into the story the season has gotten and how soon the show may begin to cover the second novel, The Great Hunt.
