Daniel Henney previews the challenges that lie ahead for Lan (and Moiraine) in The Wheel of Time season 2. Before this fall's debut of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Amazon Prime Video staked its claim on another high-fantasy world with its adaptation of the Wheel of Time series. The first season premiered last November and notched one of Amazon's biggest debuts of all time. To further demonstrate the streamer's faith in The Wheel of Time, Amazon granted the series a second season before it even premiered. Fans are now waiting to hear when that might arrive.

As many have noted, The Wheel of Time departs heavily from Robert Jordan's original books. Because of that, the show's path going forward is uncertain for even those who have pored over all 14 installments. When The Wheel of Time last left off, the series' newly revealed Chosen One, Rand (Josha Stradowski), just made it through his first true encounter with the Dark One (Fares Fares) and disappeared by himself to places unknown. However, powerful Aes Sedai Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) didn't fare quite as well; the Dark One took away her ability to access the One Power, leaving her and her Warder Lan (Henney) bereft.

As a result, The Wheel of Time season 2 will find Lan and Moiraine in a difficult place. In a recent interview with Contentmode, Henney previewed the challenges the bonded pair will face in season 2. Speaking especially about Lan's arc, Henney hinted there will be some major obstacles ahead. He also summed up season 2 in a rather... unique way. Henney said:

Lan and Moiraine will be tested. Individually and as a Warder/Aes Sedai unit. They’ll face challenges that have huge implications. I consider season 2 a “journey season” for Lan. He will be faced with many moments and situations that force him to question everything he’s believed in and how he’s lived his life up to this point. It’s really hard for me to not give too much away, but I will say this- 2 swords, multiple fades, blood….lots of blood.

Since the very first episode of The Wheel of Time, Lan has been incredibly devoted to Moiraine; as her Warder, he is both traveling companion and protector, and the two have a spiritual connection that has been closed off because of Moiraine's loss of the One Power. It's that twist from the Wheel of Time season 1 finale that likely contributes to Henney's hints about Lan questioning all he's believed in. His world has changed, and going forward, he and Moiraine must both find a new way to carry on the fight against the darkness.

It also sounds like The Wheel of Time season 2 will be just as action-packed and bloody as season 1. Though perhaps not on the same level as Game of Thrones, the Amazon series wasn't afraid to get a bit graphic when it came to some of the fight scenes. Of course, Henney could be overexaggerating with his blood tease; fans will just have to find out for themselves by tuning into The Wheel of Time season 2 whenever it arrives on Prime Video.
