A new teaser for What We Do in the Shadows teases that the infamous witch hat will reappear in season 3. FX's impassively satirical vampire mockumentary series, Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's What We Do in the Shadows is based on the duo's 2014 New Zealand film of the same name. The Emmy-nominated spin-off focuses on a group of vampiric shut-ins different from those shown in the film - Natasia Dand Kavyan Novak's Nandor - and it follows them through their nightly misadventures on Staten Island. Co-starring in the show are Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson, an energy vampire, and Harvey Guillén as Guillermo, Nandor's forsaken human familiar. Throughout its two-season run, What We Do in the Shadows has received praise for its unique world-building and charming take on vampiric lore, and now the show is gearing up to woo audiences once again in its upcoming season 3.

Scheduled to premiere on September 2 on FX, What We Do in the Shadows' highly anticipated third season has surely managed to create some noise. Fans are particularly hyped for the new season as it has been promised that several new supernatural creatures would make their way into the show, including hellhounds, sirens, and possibly gargoyles. Besides that, the plot lines that await audiences in season 3, such as Nandor's quest to find love and Colin Robinson's birthday party, are all also fairly thrilling, and they have surely kept fans hooked to the show. Recently, What We Do in the Shadows kicked off its marketing campaign for season 3, unveiling multiple clips where the vampires try to sell stuff on eBay to "declutter themselves." Now the show has released another similar video, but the item up for sale this time will definitely baffle series loyalists.

On Monday, the official Instagram account, theshadowsfx, posted a clip to tease the upcoming third season. It mainly focused on Guillén's Guillermo listing a "Medival Torture Rack" for sale, but a part of the video was dedicated to Nadja vowing to get rid of a rather familiar prop. The item is none other than Laszlo’s witch skin hat, one of his most prized possessions that he has held onto despite being cursed. In the new video, Nadja orders Guillermo to get the "bloody thing out of the house," although it's unclear if he  goes through with the instruction or not.

The return of the witch skin hat in season 3 is rather unexpected, especially given that it has already had two episodes revolve around it in seasons 1 and 2, respectively. The hat first made its debut in episode 104, "Manhattan Night Club," where it was revealed that it was the cause of contention between Laszlo and Nick Kroll's Simon the Devious, as the latter was jealous of the former's ownership of the prop. The hat later resurfaced in episode 207, "The Return," where Simon comes back to seize it from Laszlo. Although Simon initially succeeds in tricking Laszlo to give him the hat, he ultimately drowns due to the misfortune brought by the prop. Laszlo then subsequently swoops in and retrieves the item.

The presence of the witch skin hat in What We Do in the Shadows' latest teaser is a particularly interesting Easter egg given the information that is already known about the upcoming season. Previously, the show's producers had teased the return of a popular character in What We Do in the Shadows season 3. At that time, they gave away no hints about who is the one returning for the show, but as the new clip suggests, it's possible that they may have been talking about Kroll's Simon the Devious. Simon is a popular character among What We Do in the Shadows fans, and it won't really be tough for them to reintroduce a character that wasn't explicitly shown to be dead. Still, to know for sure, fans will have to until next month when season 3 premieres.
