What We Do In The Shadows star Harvey Guillén revealed some of Guillermo's development for Season 3. At the Season 2 finale of the FX comedy, Guillermo left his role as a vampiric familiar after realizing his decade-long tenure wouldn't evolve into the anticipated promotion of becoming a vampire. When his former masters are trapped by the Vampiric Council at the Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires, Guillermo returns to save the day and slaughter all enemy vampires in attendance -- but in doing so reveals his ancestral connection to the notorious vampire slayer Van Helsing.

An adaptation of the hit film by Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, the FX show stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Mark Proksch as four vampires living on Staten Island. After they were tasked by the ancient Baron Afanas to take over the Island, the pair accidentally kill the Baron following a night of heavy drinking. Now, the bumbling quartet dodges assassins by the Vampiric Council, whose roster includes actors Evan Rachel Wood, Danny Trejo, Wesley Snipes, and Tilda Swinton, each playing parodies of the characters from their respective vampire franchises. At the center of all of this is the human Guillermo -- the only competent member of the bunch and long-term familiar to Novak's Nandor the Relentless -- who has to thwart vampire hunters and vampires alike to save his masters. The show was recognized as one of the best of 2020.

Guillermo actor Harvey Guillén talked about what Season 3 has in store for his character during an interview with Bleeding Cool. Guillén explains how the show will start when Season 2 ends, giving no time for unseen development but rather an instant reaction by the housemate vampires. As the housemates have now learned, Guillermo is a vampire-slaying prodigy -- once a celebrated running gag and soon to be a central conflict -- all the dynamics will have changed for Guillermo's relationships and journey. Beyond that, Guillén hints there will be returns from familiar faces and flares of past loves. Read the quote below:

We definitely pick up where we left off [...] We left off on a real big cliffhanger with finding out the truth and the housemates finding out about Guillermo's lineage with Van Helsing and that he's a natural-born killer. We definitely pick up there. There's no time lapse that goes by. I think it's like we pick up where we left off and we'll be dealing with a lot of new things as well. We'll be introducing old faces that you saw. I will be seeing old girlfriends of the characters. There's definitely a lot of adventure ahead.

For Guillén, Guillermo's journey seems to be just beginning, and fans of the character will have plenty to look forward to in Season 3. Guillén also stars in the upcoming horror-comedy Werewolves Within alongside Detroiters star Sam Richardson. Waititi's Shadows film received a second spin-off show, Wellington Paranormal -- surrounding the incompetent cops struggling to uphold a social hierarchy against paranormal entities -- now moving to a July premiere at The CW and HBO Max.

After more than a decade at Nandor's helm, fans have rallied behind justice for Guillermo's hard work and sacrifice. Now that the housemate vampires' negligence has enabled Guillermo to find what may be his true calling as a vampire slayer, a world of possibilities has opened up for the show. Season 3 may show Guillermo turning on the housemates, advocating for grand diplomacy between humans and vampires, or maybe just reveling in the new power dynamics. No matter what, after an outstanding Season 2What We Do In The Shadows Season 3 has poised itself for television greatness. What We Do In The Shadows Season 3 premieres on September 2 on FX.
