New teasers for What We Do in the Shadows shows the series’ nocturnal Staten Islanders summarizing the day’s events in their diaries. Based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 mockumentary of the same name, the acclaimed comedy follows four vampires as they fumble and bloodsuck their way through the travails of modern life. The comedy first premiered in March of 2019 and has since become adored by both fans and critics with the spinoff picking up eight Emmy nominations so far. Now, What We Do in the Shadows is gearing up for its season 3 premiere on FX on September 2.

According to actor Harvey Guillén, who plays the devoted familiar Guillermo De La Cruz, What We Do in the Shadows' highly anticipated third season will pick up immediately following second season's cliffhanger ending, wherein Guillermo made public his vampire hunting abilities. Guillén is returning alongside his cast mates Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, and Natasia Demetriou, who star as the vampires Nandor, Lazlo, and Nadja, respectively. Also returning next season is Mark Proksch, who plays the delightfully dull energy vampire, Colin Robinson. In addition to reevaluating the relationship between the now-deadly Guillermo and his masters, the What We Do in the Shadows season 3 is set to introduce new supernatural creatures, including hellhounds and sirens, as well as the return of the vampires’ longtime nemeses, werewolves. Bigger plot lines, like a vacated seat of power among the Vampiric Council, also await.

The latest batch of trailers to promote season 3 show Guillermo and the vampires enjoying some downtime and penning dispatches of the day in hilarious voiceover. Released by FX Networks, the first clip sees Guillermo reflecting on running into an old friend, a successful doctor with “two kids and a beautiful home,” while recounting how he, meanwhile, had to floss his boss’ fangs. The next clip, featuring Colin Robinson, is characteristically boring. He zaps up all the energy in the room while he discusses department meetings, all with a wry smirk. The final preview has the vampires giddily recalling a feast of eight members of an adult kickball league who were corralled by Guillermo, a seasoned virgin procurer. Check out all three clips below:

The “Dear Diary” trailers are the latest in what has been a steady stream of promotional materials from FX ahead of the show's third season. One series of clips showed the What We Do in the Shadows' vampires selling items on eBay in an attempt to declutter their spooky mansion. Another tech-centric teaser dared to expose the ancient beings to VR technology. FX has been providing morsels of the comedy’s signature satirical wit since July. Audiences’ patience will pay off on September 2, when the season’s first two episodes —“The Prisoner” and “The Cloak of Duplication”— premiere back-to-back.

What We Do in the Shadows’ official season 3 trailer promises some big changes for its crew of vampires, including Colin Robinson’s 100th birthday, a trip to Atlantic City, and Nando contemplating his place in the world. But the newer, smaller collection of diary teasers proves that the show is still interested in the hilarity of the mundane. While season 3 will explore more big picture arcs for its characters, the new trailers can ensure audiences that What We Do in the Shadows will still maintain the quotidian details and wry humor that make up the lifeblood of this vampiric comedy.
