What to remember about The Boys season 2 ahead of season 3. After wrapping season 2 in October 2020, The Boys is finally back for season 3 after a long absence. The end of The Boys season 2 set up a lot of major storylines for season 3, and there is a lot of stuff that happened that is worth reflecting on before the start of season 3.

The Boys season 2 had a lot going on and saw the titular characters on the run for a while. Butcher spent most of his time looking for, and trying to rescue, his wife Becca after learning she was alive and living inside a Vought compound with her son Ryan; Stormfront, a Nazi, emerged from hiding and joined The Seven, allying with Homelander in a bid to take control; and The Boys obtained plenty of information about Vought, Compound V, and how they have used Supes throughout their history.

The Boys season 3 premieres Friday, June 3 on Prime Video. The story will pick up one year following the events of season 2, with The Boys on the hunt for an Anti-Supe weapon that could potentially kill Homelander. But before The Boys season 3 begins, here is a recap of the most important events from season 2 to remember, including the death of Butcher’s wife Becca.

Ryan Stops Stormfront & Accidentally Kills His Mother

Stormfront with Ryan and Becca in The Boys

For the majority of The Boys season 2, Becca tried to protect Ryan from Homelander, who found his son and attempted to mold him into a killer. After Becca escapes the Vought facility and finds Butcher, which leads Butcher to make a deal with Stan Edgar, Vought’s CEO — Vought would keep Ryan and let Becca go free. However, that doesn’t work out because Butcher changes his mind and attempts to help both of them escape the clutches of Homelander and Stormfront. The two Supes find Becca and Ryan. When Stormfront tries to kill Becca, Ryan becomes incredibly angry and uses his immense power on Stormfront, severing both her legs, one arm and burning her badly enough to the point that she was near death. Unfortunately, Ryan’s powers were so great they also injured Becca, who was nearby. She didn’t die immediately, but she eventually succumbed to her injuries.

Victoria Neuman Is A Supe Who Kills Church Of The Collective’s Leader

the boys victoria neuman

Congresswoman Victoria Neuman was a bright spot throughout The Boys season 2, seemingly against The Seven and Vought. However, the season 2 finale revealed Neuman was the Supe who was exploding people’s heads and instigated the attack at the congressional hearing before Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum and others could testify against Vought. Of course, Neuman’s powers weren’t revealed until the season 2 finale when she blew up the head of Alastair Adana, the Church of the Collective’s leader, after learning he had plans against Vought. Neuman’s powers were a major twist in a season that had plenty of them. Now that the audience knows Neuman is a Supe, it will be interesting to see where her story goes next and how it will affect her working relationship with Hughie and the rest of The Boys.

Stormfront’s Nazi Past Was Made Public & Caused Tension

Stormfront came onto the scene in The Boys season 2 and got a lot of attention for her seemingly no-nonsense, truth-talking bluntness. Stormfront said whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted and got away with it, all under the guise of feminism. That is, of course, until she began spewing hate speech and killed several people from marginalized communities. It wasn’t long before she was revealing to Homelander that she was the first Supe created by Frederick Vought, the founder of Vought and the husband of Stormfront. She was angered by Vought’s changing plans, which were moving farther and farther away from her and her husband’s original ideas for a perfect Aryan race of superheroes. It was a plan she intended to see through, carrying on the Nazi goal, but with a superhero army instead. Stormfront’s background, history and Nazism were leaked to the public, who turned against her. It also put Vought in a tense situation as they, and Homelander, attempted to clean up their image following the revelation.

Black Noir Is Nearly Killed After An Allergic Reaction

the boys black noir

For a long time, Black Noir was one of the deadliest and stealthiest members of The Seven. He stalked Butcher throughout The Boys season 2 and fought Starlight after she broke free of her imprisonment following her capture. While Black Noir typically won the fights he engaged in, Queen Maeve had a trick up her sleeve. To save Starlight from being killed by Black Noir, Maeve fought her fellow Supe and bested him by lifting up his mask and forcing him to eat an Almond Joy. As it turns out, Black Noir has a tree-nut allergy and, while eating an Almond Joy doesn’t kill him, it leaves him out of commission for a while and unable to fulfill his duties with The Seven.

Starlight & A-Train Are Welcomed Back Into The Seven

Starlight was outed as a traitor to The Seven by Homelander after he realized she was working with The Boys. By the end of The Boys’ season 2 finale, however, Starlight was welcomed back to the team after Maeve threatened Homelander, suggesting she would publicly release the video of the flight of people they both failed to save in season 1. Following the death of Shockwave, A-Train was reinstated in The Seven, leaving The Deep — who also hoped to make a comeback to the team — on the wayside and still with the Church of the Collective.

Hughie Goes To Work With Neuman On Her Campaign

the boys hughie

Hughie struggled throughout The Boys season 2 and he had plenty of conflicts with Butcher. After a while, however, he came to the conclusion that he didn’t really fit in with Butcher and the rest of The Boys. Hughie wanted to do things differently, which is why he decides at the end of season 2 to go and work with Victoria Neuman on her campaign. Hughie believed Neuman was an ally and that by working alongside her he could affect change from within and do so legally.

The Boys Split Up & Go Their Separate Ways

the boys team season 2

Hughie isn’t the only one who leaves The Boys behind. By the end of The Boys season 2, the titular group had all split up. Marvin (aka, Mother’s Milk or M.M.) goes back home to his family so that he can spend more time with his daughter; Frenchie and Kimiko leave the team together; Butcher joins Grace Mallory’s CIA taskforce that was put together to find and keep tabs on Supes. The Boys no longer being a united front poses an interesting and new status quo headed into The Boys season 3.
