Otto Octavius/Peter Parker as the Superior Spider-Man in Marvel Comics.

*Warning: Spoilers ahead for Spider-Man: Homecoming*

An image of an unused Spider-Man: Homecoming costume design has been revealed, thanks to a tweet by character designer and concept artist Ryan Meinerding. Meinerding did "a lot of designs for the 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' suit," and based this unused suit design on Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman's costume from the Superior Spider-Man comic series.

The webhead received several costume changes in the recent commercially-and-critically successful reboot, but unfortunately, this homage to the Superior Spider-Man run was left on the cutting room floor. With countless iterations of this Spider-costume to pick from, however, we should probably not be too surprised to find that a few quality designs such as this did not make it to the screen.

Among the big Avengers: Infinity War news that came out of Marvel Studio's panel at the D23 Expo last weekend, was confirmation that Peter will don the fan-favorite Iron Spider suit - which was shown off at the end of Homecoming, when he turned down Tony Stark's invitation to join The Avengers - in the movie. So, with Spidey donning a brand new Stark tech-infused costume in the upcoming Avengers flick, perhaps there is a chance for even more exciting new costume alterations in the future.

The fact that this image is now being made public might be reason enough to suggest that this design won't make an appearance in a future MCU film anytime soon. However, there is no precedent to say that Sony and Marvel Studios definitely will or will not use this concept in the future.

I did a lot of designs for the new #SpiderManHomecoming suit. Here's an unused one based on #superiorspiderman by @DanSlott and @RyanStegman pic.twitter.com/jLiXY7XtYG— Ryan Meinerding (@MeinerdingArt) July 18, 2017

With Tom Holland's Spider-Man making an admittedly brief appearance in Infinity War (approximately the same amount as he received in Captain America: Civil War, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige) and an already-scheduled sequel in the works, there certainly looks to be several more opportunities for new costumes and nods to the character's comic book roots.

Infinity War is nearing completion of principal photography and Homecoming's untitled sequel looks to pick up right where Avengers 4 leaves off narratively speaking, so there is plenty of incentive for Spidey fans to go out and watch the next two adventures featuring all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Whether or not Holland's wall-crawler will continue to rock the Iron Spider suit post-Infinity War or thereafter pick up a new look (such as this unused design) remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: there is plenty more Spider-Man coming our way.
