Marvel Studios has released a brand-new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, featuring the perfect all-new song to be added to the MCU's ongoing "Awesome Mix". Coming from director James Gunn, the upcoming movie will be the final chapter in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, concluding an epic trilogy that has always put its family of characters at the forefront. However, music has always played a key role thanks to Peter Quill's Walkman and Zune with their collection of classic songs.

As seen in the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Super Bowl trailer, the focus is primarily put on the movie's new villain known as the High Evolutionary (played by Chukwudi Iwuji) as well as the return of Gamora, the daughter of Thanos from 2014 rather than the one who fell in love with Peter Quill's Star-Lord:

Rather than having the same song "In The Meantime" by Spacehog heard in the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the new Super Bowl trailer opts for a brand-new track that's just as perfect for the Guardians' final chapter.

"Since You Been Gone" was originally written by guitarist Russ Ballard in 1976 and covered by Rainbow in 1979 for their album Down to Earth. Not only does is fit the overall sound and style of past songs in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, it perfectly resonates with the return of the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's story. Although they've had appearances in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder and their own Holiday Special, they haven't had a full feature movie since 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Why Guardians Of The Galaxy 3's Super Bowl Trailer Song Is So GoodChris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3-1

"Since You Been Gone" works on multiple levels for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Star-Lord's love-interest Gamora been "gone" since the events of Avengers: Endgame, and he's certainly been "cast under a spell" even though she's not the Gamora who fell in love with him. Likewise, all the Guardians will soon be "gone" as well following this final chapter with "one last ride". In all likelihood one of two of the cosmic heroes such as Drax or Rocket Raccoon will probably die by the movie's end, though its unknown what will become of the rest of the team.

Additionally, a key section of lyrics refers to "these four walls are closing in, look at the fix you put me in", a fitting line for this new trailer where the Guardians are predominately wearing jumpsuits in some sort of prison. It's also worth noting that "Since You Been Gone" was also part of Star-Lord's playlist in the 2021 videogame Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (making the song an auditory Easter egg). In any case, with the Guardians' MCU futures uncertain, they will soon have to "face the music" in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming to theaters May 5th, though they'll certainly have some great jams for their final adventure.
