The second season of What If...? may have more Spider-Man stories, according to director Bryan Andrews. Marvel's first animated series on Disney+ premiered back in August and just wrapped its first season this Wednesday. Over nine weeks, the series revisited pivotal moments from the MCU's main timeline and pondered its titular question by imagining what would have happened if they played out a little differently. What If...? is joined by Loki as the only two Marvel series to be renewed for a second season, so far.

A few of the most notable storylines seen in season 1 include Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) taking the super soldier serum instead of Captain America to become Captain Carter and T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) becoming Star-Lord instead of Peter Quill. The series also featured more ensemble episodes in which the Avengers were mysteriously killed off, another in which they fend off a zombie apocalypse, and season 1 culminated with the formation of the Guardians of the Multiverse. However, noticeably missing from season 1 were episodes centered around the fan-favorite hero, Spider-Man.

Now that season 1 of What If...? has come to a close, the show's creative team is looking ahead to the infinite possibilities that lie beyond for season 2 of the show that puts the multiverse front and center. In an interview with Comicbook, the show's director and executive producer, Bryan Andrews, hinted that future stories involving Spider-Man are likely, though he couldn't say whether or not they will happen during the second season, which is currently in development. Read what Bradley had to say below.

Well, we can't talk too much about what may or may not be happening in Season 2. But we do love Spider-Man, so who knows what may happen in the future. But yeah, we dig all that stuff, so it's just a question of if we're able to do enough shows or enough seasons, who knows what we'll get. We'll definitely be able to — hopefully, at that point — either revisit characters or revisit characters in a way that we've are familiar with and then spin them even something else differently. You know what I mean? But when it comes to Season 2, we can't say anything about that stuff.

Spider-Man pulling his webs in Marvel's What If...?

What If...? creator and head writer A.C. Bradley recently revealed that all the scripts for season 2 are already finished, so if there are any Spider-Man-centric stories, they have presumably been written already and Andrews is just unable to reveal that information. Bradley also said the second season will pull more from Phase Four, hinting at episodes centered around characters from Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals. It makes sense they would go one film further into Phase Four to Spider-Man: No Way Home and tackle stories involving the wall-crawling superhero.

Spider-Man already appeared in Episode 5, "What If... Zombies?!" (voiced by Hudson Thames instead of Tom Holland), though fans surely want to see an entire episode centered around Peter Parker, much like Peggy, T'Challa, and Doctor Strange got in season 1. Releasing on December 17, Spider-Man: No Way Home is already clearly going to be a multi-verse centric story, so it will be interesting to see how What If...? tackles alternate Spider-Man stories if they decide to go that route.
