A new fan poster for What If…? imagines what Benedict Cumberbatch could look like as a live-action evil Doctor Strange. What If…? is Marvel’s first attempt at an animated MCU series, focusing on events from alternate universes where things happened slightly different than what played out in the live-action MCU movies. The series has brought back several MCU actors to voice their characters, with Jeffrey Wright narrating What If…? as The Watcher.

Even though episode 3, “What If… the World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?” killed off key Avengers members, the fourth episode titled “What If… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?” is considered the darkest episode in the series yet. The episode focuses on Doctor Strange struggling to deal with the death of Christine Palmer, who is killed in the car crash that crushed Strange’s hands in the movie. Strange is seen using the Eye of Agamotto to try to save Palmer but is unsuccessful since her death is an Absolute Point in Time. Doctor Strange momentarily succeeds in bringing his loved one back to life but destroys the entire universe in the process.

A new fan poster from elilusionista.cl imagines this storyline being adapted for a live-action MCU movie, showing Cumberbatch as an evil Doctor Strange. The artist titles the poster Doctor Strange and the Absolute Point in Time, mixing together animated and live-action elements in his artwork. elilusionista.cl's original post can be seen below:

Doctor Strange will play an important role in MCU’s Phase 4, with him possibly being the one to restore the Sacred Timeline. Not only will Strange have to deal with the consequences of Sylvie’s actions, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also likely deal with Strange helping Wanda control her powers after she begins studying the Dark Hold. The Sorcerer Supreme has always been seen as a good guy in the MCU and is even helping Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, there have been rumors that Doctor Strange could end up being the villain in the sequel since Stephen would likely know the consequences of tampering with Space Time.

Doctor Strange’s arc in upcoming MCU movies isn’t quite clear. However, it seems unlikely Marvel would make a straight adaptation of What If…?’s fourth episode. What If…? has been getting solid reviews from the start and has even been renewed for a second season. The show has proven to be an interesting way to experience MCU stories, so it seems unnecessary to start adapting them for live-action. That being said, that doesn’t make the above artwork any less impressive.
