A new piece of fan-art for Marvel's What If...? imagines what Chadwick Boseman could look like as a live-action version of Star-Lord T'Challa. The animated series was one of multiple projects announced to be in development for Marvel Studios at Disney+ alongside WandaVisionLoki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The series hails from creator A.C. Bradley, who was suggested for the position by a Marvel executive producer after unsuccessfully pitching to write Captain Marvel.

Based on the Marvel comics of the same name, What If...? explores some of the most iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe moments and how they could have happened differently, including Killmonger becoming King of Wakanda and Peggy Carter becoming the first super soldier known as Captain Carter. Boseman, who debuted in the role of T'Challa with Captain America: Civil War, was one of the first MCU stars to sign on for the animated series. Due to the Oscar nominee's passing in mid 2020, What If...? will also mark Boseman's final portrayal of the Wakandan king for the MCU and will appear in four episodes of season 1.

With just a week remaining until the series' premiere, artist Mizuri took to Twitter to share a new piece of fan art for Marvel's What If...?. The art sees a live-action Boseman donning the suit of the Guardians of the Galaxy leader Star-Lord, of which the series will feature in a cel-shaded animation style. As memorable as Chris Pratt has made the role of Star-Lord in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films, the revelation that Boseman's T'Challa would take over the position for What If...? has been a point of excitement for many fans, especially in the wake of the actor's passing. With the series expected to have major consequences for the MCU moving forward, it comes as a bit of a disappointment that the live-action realm of the franchise won't get the opportunity to put Boseman in the rocket-powered shoes of the Guardians leader. Though this may not come to be, the new piece of fan art at least makes for a satisfying imagining for fans of the star and his character.

Additionally, the extent of Boseman's involvement in What If...? is enough to keep fans excited for his final outing in the MCU. Set to appear in nearly half of season 1, the actor will have a key role in the animated series that should be intriguing to see how it may affect the larger universe. Only time will tell when What If...? premieres on Disney+ on August 11.
