Warning! Spoilers for Savage Avengers #24 by Marvel Comics below

Marvel's Avengers and many of the universe's greatest heroes just took on a potentially world-ending threat and shockingly lost. In the latest issue of Savage Avengers #24, Doctor Strange brought in some of his most powerful allies to stop Kulan Gath from taking over the world. But, unfortunately, unlike in Avengers: Endgame, where the Avengers banded together to stop Thanos, Kulan Grath won - and killed many heroes in the process.

Few moments are more iconic than the Avengers last stand against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. In the scene, Marvel's greatest heroes are teleported onto the battlefield by Doctor Strange and help defeat the Mad Titan. The moment was recreated in the pages of Savage Avengers, as Doctor Strange used similar portals to call in Marvel's most powerful heroes to help him stop the evil sorcerer, Kulan Gath. Strange reached across the universe to bring in Thor, the X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more to stop Gath. But, the massive fight did not go as expected.

In Savage Avengers #24 by Gerry Duggan, Patch Zircher, Java Tartaglia, and Travis Lanham, the Avengers assemble to take on Kulan Gath, who has the City of Sickles floating over New York as he's mind-controlled the inhabitants of the city. Marvel heroes (and villains) throw everything they've got at Kulan-Gath, but the villain handles them with ease, catching and biting a piece off Captain America's shield while using a powerful blast from his eyes to rip through She-Hulk. But, even as they get more reinforcements, Kulan Gath doesn't relent - and it turns out, the greatest heroes on Earth lose.

The Avengers Lose Marvel Comics

The comic flashes forward to 2043, where it's revealed Kulan Gath obliterated Earth's Mightiest Heroes and humankind and sits on a throne. Almost every hero is dead, save Conan the Barbarian (who becomes Doctor Doom), Doctor Strange (who is soon burned alive), and Bruce Banner (although Kulan Gath tortures him to hold back the Hulk). Conan smartly finds Rama-Tut's sarcophagus and writes the words, "September 15, 2043," which leads to Kang the Conqueror visiting the timeline and ask why he's been requested.

The dark future is clearly the worst-case scenario for Marvel's greatest heroes. Unlike when they banded together to fight Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame and won, their latest fight ended with the deaths of almost everyone involved fighting against Kulan Gath. Now, Conan will need to use Kang the Conqueror and travel back in time to prevent the dark future from ever occurring. Savage Avengers #42 is in comic book stores now.
