Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields focused on the history of a desolate 25-acre patch of land where dozens of bodies have been found over the years, including Laura Miller, whose father, Tim Miller, never stopped fighting for his daughter. After losing his daughter, Tim would devote the rest of his life to finding justice for his daughter and helping others who suffered similar tragedies. All while still grappling with the resolution of his daughter's case.

Tim’s daughter Laura was only 16 when she vanished from a League City convenience store in 1984. This store was the same store where Texas Killing Fields' victim Heidi Faye was last seen a year prior. Like Faye, Laura’s body would be found at a later date discarded in the killing field, only 60 feet from Faye’s remains. The loss devastated the Miller family and would spur Tim into action.

Following the death of his daughter, Tim Miller immediately got to work. Initially, he focused on primarily trying to track down the person or persons responsible for the murder of his daughter and wanted to exact revenge. However, after several years, Tim has come to forgive whoever killed his daughter. Although the Netflix true-crime show only covers the killing field murders, Tim would go on to expand his efforts beyond this set of cases, creating an organization known as Texas EquuSearch in 2000, 16 years after his daughter's death.

Texas EquuSearch is dedicated to the memory of Laura Miller and is devoted to coordinating search and rescue efforts for people missing throughout the world. The group has successfully found several missing people over the years in over 42 states and several countries (via ABC13). These efforts have earned Tim many national awards and commendations, such as the George H.W. Point of Light Award, which is reserved for those who make a positive difference in their community (via KPRC2). Additionally, Tim has also gone on to make several media appearances to raise awareness of missing persons cases. He has also testified as an expert witness in criminal cases.

Was Laura Miller's Killer Ever Found?

Sadly, despite Tim’s contributions to the community and work in other cases, the murder of his own daughter still remains unsolved. There are several Texas Killing Fields murder suspects. However, none of them have been definitively linked to Laura’s case. One of these suspects, Clyde Hedrick, confessed to a jailhouse informant that he was the one who killed Laura (via DigitalSpy). However, there was no hard evidence to back up his claims, and as a result, he was never charged in her case. Tim still believes to this day that Hedrick was the one who took his daughter’s life. In 2014, he filed a wrongful death suit against Hedrick and was awarded $24 million dollars in compensation this year (via Oxygen). The League City Police Department and FBI still consider the case unsolved in spite of this.
