Fighting games are experiencing a resurgence recently. Street Fighter 6 is on its way and fans are intensely excited and Tekken is receiving an anime adaptation on Netflix. Last year saw the major success of Guilty Gear Strive, which has been experiencing massive popularity.

Of course, gameplay isn't everything. All of these games also push their characters forward in new, exciting ways. These characters are unique even among gaming stars and the zodiac can show players which of these gaming fighters they're the most like.

Aries - Ryu (Street Fighter)

Ryu has a beard in Street Fighter 6 and it is too much.

Street Fighter's protagonist created many imitators. The Shotokan Karate practitioner who saught good fights would be replicated by nearly everyone. Ryu ended up being the leader of the archetype using his determination and passion. A leader who has discipline also describes the first sign of the zodiac.

Aries is a sign that's always looking for physical competition and could they described as a wandering world warrior. Aries' negative aspects, like aggression, could also come into play here. Ryu, for a long time, struggled with his inner darkness and has only recently found peace.

Taurus - Terry Bogard (Fatal Fury)

Terry Bogard is the star of Fatal Fury, which was created as a competitor for SFII. He was a contrast to Ryu and energetic and kind, whereas Ryu can be violent and stoic. Terry would become such a hit he'd appear in Super Smash Bros.

Terry is supposed to be more "grounded" than Ryu and, despite the fact that he's on a revenge quest, he cares about his local neighborhood. He's a gentle guy that you can talk to, and he's so responsible he looks after neighborhood kids. Taureans and Terry both share these traits of reliability and kindness, making Terry the most similar fighting character to the sign.

Gemini - Morrigan Aensland (Darkstalkers)

Darkstalkers is one of the forgotten Capcom's fighting game franchises. That is, except for Morrigan. While she wasn't the protagonist, she quickly became Darkstalkers' most popular character. It's easy to see why, as, like Gemini, this vampire succubi princess contains multitudes.

She has a literal split personality in Lillith, her sister that was created from her power. However, she also has another duality behind her succubus facade: a curiosity for the human world that causes her to be silly or sentimental. This Gemini duality of being both a responsible demon and a curious nerd is a key part of her character.

Cancer - Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)

Cancers are loyal and tenacious. They have strong ties to their families and loved ones. However, it can also be hard to get to know them. Similarly, it's also hard to get to know the flaming revenant consumed by the desire to avenge his family and fights in Mortal Kombat tournaments.

Hanzo Hasashi was a ninja in the Shirai Ryu clan whose family was murdered by Sub-Zero (or Quan-Chi). His intense emotion and loyalty to his family cause him to reanimate. Being a vengeful ghost, obviously, he holds Cancer's negative traits of suspicion and pessimism. However, he firmly fights on the side of good as an emotional hero.

Leo - Heihachi Mishima (Tekken)

While his son, Kazuya, got into Smash Bros and his grandson, Jin, is starring in the upcoming Tekken anime, it's important not to forget about Heihachi. The Mishima family patriarch is one of the best characters in Tekken and the leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu, a worldwide power that he rules like a king.

Speaking of kings, Leos and Heihachi have a lot in common when it comes to their shared leadership roles and tendency toward arrogance. However, Mishima exemplifies Leo's positive aspects. He's powerful and has a good sense of humor, as evidenced by his love of elaborate jokes.

Virgo - Nakoruru (Samurai Shodown)

Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown hangs out in a beautiful autmunal forest.

Samurai Shodown is one of the best fighting games of the 1990s. It's a tense game where movement is risky, and the wrong move can mean a brutal death. Of course, that means a peppy shrine maiden would logically be the game's breakout star. Nakoruru is a very popular character in Japan and she's a Virgo for sure.

Virgos are kind and hardworking, which are two traits Nakoruru has in spades. She also demonstrates love and appreciation for nature and protects it with her hawk, Mamahaha. Her dedication to her cause and environmentalism mark her as a Virgo.

Libra - Kasumi (Dead Or Alive)

Dead or Alive is a controversial fighting game. That said, it still has its share of icons, especially ninjas. Ninjas like protagonist Kasumi sneak around and play supporting and stealthy roles in getting revenge on those who have wronged them. Of course, skill at ninjutsu indicates Libra's personality.

Despite being trained in violence, she tries to avoid conflict. This is much like Libra, as is how she will easily cooperate with others. She has a lot of compassion, leaving her clan to save her family. She's a fierce fighter, but also fair-minded.

Scorpio - Sol Badguy (Guilty Gear)

Scorpio is a sign defined by its power but some can be distrusting, jealous, and violent. However, they make up for these flaws by being resourceful and true allies. Taken all together, some Scorpios are rough around the edges but kind, deep down. This is like the edgy protagonist of Guilty Gear, Sol Badguy.

Externally, Sol is an intimidating guy. He's constantly on fire and has taken the job of a mercenary. However, behind all of that is a wounded scientist who used to pursue the world's mysteries with his friends. He has the curious spirit of Scorpio, along with their overwhelming power.

Sagittarius - Kyo Kusanagi (King Of Fighters)

King of Fighters was created as a spin-off of Fatal Fury but would eclipse it in popularity. As such, one might expect Terry or someone similar to be the hero. Not so, as the initial protagonist was the hot-blooded punk kid Kyo Kusanagi. Kyo would travel around to fight in the KoF tournament and fight threats.

Travel is certainly an important part of being a Sagittarius. However, Kyo's impatience and sass also mark him as a hot-headed sign. However, he still has a generous and idealistic attitude, which is fitting, as KoF was one of the first fighting games to have a cinematic ongoing story. His initial arc is about stopping climate change, and there's nothing more idealistic than that.

Capricorn - Fulgore (Killer Instinct)

Capricorns are well-disciplined and have an almost mechanical precision in everything they do. They are unrelenting, unforgiving, and have a wealth of knowledge. This is a pretty good descriptor of the iconic '90s fighting game character and cyborg assassin from Killer Instinct.

Fulgore is a cyborg soldier used by the company UltraTech as a footsoldier. They use him as a relentless hitman that terrifies his enemies. However, he's not without the positive attributes of a Capricorn, and his human half, Eagle, has a heavy appreciation for his family and tradition after he's freed.

Aquarius - Nightmare (Soul Calibur)

A split image of the terrifying Nighrmare from Soul Calibur and his human part Siegfried.

Siegfried has a troubled childhood and all of the trauma he experienced became even further amplified when he found the cursed sword, Soul Edge. It transformed him into the evil knight, Nightmare, and as Nightmare, Siegfried would run away from his past and become an aloof and independent force like some Aquarians.

Soul Calibur's main protagonist is split between two bodies nowadays, but both are Aquarians. There is Siegfried, who is seeking redemption and independence from the Soul Edge. Then there's Nightmare, animated by Soul Edge with a temper and aloofness. Siegfried has an Aquarians' positive traits and Nightmare, the negative.

Pisces - Mario (Super Smash Bros)

Super Smash Bros features Mario as a playable fighter

Pisces, as the final sign in the zodiac, represents all that came before and is to come. Mario from Super Smash Bros obviously represents gaming as a whole as the most iconic video game character. However, he also takes the attributes of Shoto-kan fighters in fighting games as his moveset contains a fireball, an uppercut, and a spinning attack.

Mario used his status as an amalgamation of fighting game tropes and gaming history to bring on new players. This created the new platform fighter genre that Super Smash Bros is basically responsible for. In addition to his symbolic nature, Mario also has the kind traits of a Pisces, like being compassionate and creative.
