What We Do in the Shadows has officially started filming for season 3, actor Harvey Guillén confirmed on Thursday. A televised spin-off to Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's 2014 Kiwi-cult film, the FX horror-comedy mockumentary series follows a new crop of vampire roommates on their nightly misadventures in Staten Island. The series stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, and Natasia Demetriou as the main vampires Nandor, Nadja, and Laszlo, whereas Mark Proksch features as a less traditional energy vampire Colin Robinson. Guillén also stars in the show as Nandor's long-suffering familiar Guillermo, whom the vampires treat with sheer disregard. Last May, the show was renewed for a third season.

On Thursday, Guillén added an Instagram story from the sets of What We Do in the Shadows in Toronto, indicating that the show has commenced production on season 3. In his story, the Guillermo actor stated that he was off to the sets for the first day of filming. He also shared a welcoming letter that was sent to him by the production team. Guillén had arrived in Toronto along with the other cast members two weeks earlier. But as per Canada's COVID-19 protocols, he had to quarantine for 14 days before he could begin shooting.

During its previous season, What We Do in the Shadows adhered to a strict production and release schedule. Filming would normally take place between October and December, and the show would then air in March. But this year the production was delayed until February due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming is now expected to continue through May—that is if there isn't a new spike in cases of coronavirus in Toronto. Given the new timetable, fans can expect What We Do in the Shadows season 3 to debut by Halloween, which is later than the show's usual premiere dates, but a more fitting launch period for the killing vampiric mockumentary series. It is definitely hard for fans to wait for the new show after the explosive cliffhanger in the season 2 finale. But hopefully, when season 3 arrives, it will be worth the anticipation and patience.
