HBO's Westworld has layered philosophical and technical mysteries for three seasons, and fans have always found new and intriguing revelations in the hit sci-fi series. Its quandaries about the meaning behind the pragmatic nature of human existence have only been amplified by its fascinating characters.

Whether fans identify with the isolated visionary Dr. Ford who conceived Westworld, the lonely and diligent Bernard Lowe who helped him realize his dreams, or Dolores Abernathy, the first of his robotic creations to bring it all crashing down, their personality traits often aligned so well because of their corresponding astrological signs.

Updated on August 4th, 2022 by Kayleena Pierce-Bohen: Westworld returns for season 4, and with it, new characters with specific traits have been introduced, while old characters have come into their own and changed in fascinating ways. As Halores continues her machinations of enslaving humankind, she faces a growing resistance of outliers and even some hosts that don't quite believe in her mission.

Aries - Dolores Abernathy

Dolores Abernathy was the oldest host in the Westworld park, and one of the first to awaken to sentience. Once she was aware of what she was and the humans who controlled her, she instigated a revolution to free hosts from human subjugation. Because of her compelling narrative arc, she remains one of the best Westworld characters in the series.

Like a true Aries, Dolores was a maverick and a radical thinker who refused to be categorized. She had a capacity for great violence and a raging temper, channeled towards ends that would justify the means of their implementation.

Taurus - Maeve Millay

Maeve was originally a homesteader host who was reprogrammed to become the madame of the Mariposa Saloon. Welcoming and seductive, she made guests feel comfortable by offering every titillation they could desire.

Maeve embodied the reliability and the loyalty of a Taurus, willing to go to the ends of her programming to protect the ones she loved the most. As the bull sign, she was persistent in her goals, even siding with the enemies of her enemies to get the job done. Only a strong Taurus like Maeve could keep saving the world again and again.

Gemini - Teddy Flood

Teddy Flood in Westworld

Prior to gaining sentience, Teddy Flood's core function was to be a suitor to Dolores Abernathy and assist guests by guiding them around the town of Sweetwater. One of the most likable characters in Westworld, he's friendly and adaptable like most of his sign, with a renewed vigor for life every time he stepped off the train.

Like most Gemini, Teddy could be inquisitive, and he pressed Dolores for information about her plans beyond Westworld even when he wasn't ready to know them. Her behavior made him nervous, and ultimately caused a fissure in their relationship that his youthful idealism couldn't overcome. Or so fans thought! Even in season 4, Teddy remains open-minded and generous as he tries to awaken Christine to the truth of her reality.

Cancer - Ashley Stubbs

Tasked with maintaining order in the park and seeing to the safety and security of its human patrons, Ashley Stubbs was also on the side of the hosts. He operated under direct orders from Westworld creator Dr. Robert Ford.

Stubbs was careful, cautious, and shrewd to the point of obstinate like many Cancer. He was protective of the hosts and sympathetic to their plight, which ultimately made him side with Bernard Lowe when Charlotte Hale assumed control of Delos Inc.

Leo - James Delos

James Delos in Westworld

A larger-than-life visionary, James Delos created Delos Inc and Delos Destinations to advance humanity through technological innovation. His broad-minded creativity occurred at the expense of forming lasting bonds with his children.

James Delos, unfortunately, represented all of his signs worst qualities, including being arrogant about his company, patronizing to anyone that presumed to know better than him about its direction, and dogmatic with his rage against detractors to his success.

VIRGO - BERNARD LOWE

Originally head of the Behavior department of Westworld, Bernard Lowe worked closely alongside Dr. Robert Ford to create hosts that were eerily human-like. Despite being one of the most intelligent Westworld characters, Bernard was known for being modest about his contributions and shy in his demeanor.

Like many Virgo, Bernard was diligent in his work, and prone to anxiety over its mismanagement. He could be overcritical of his peers, particularly Elsie, but never let his striving for perfectionism jeopardize his place at Delos.

Libra - Logan Delos

The son of Delos visionary James Delos, Logan was a constant disappointment to his father because of his free-wheeling lifestyle. A true hedonist, Logan loved to visit Westworld because it was the perfect opportunity to indulge all of his carnal appetites.

While Logan could be charming when he wanted to be, he most embodied the Libra traits of being self-indulgent, contrary, and impulsive. He cared more about whether or not the hosts satisfied his urges than for their own general well-being.

Scorpio - William/The Man In Black

Ed Harris as William the Man In Black in Westworld

An original investor in the Westworld park, William was completely taken in by its promise to change its patrons into their ultimate personification. He relished the limitless possibilities, and in their further indulgence, he perverted them.

Where William embodied Scorpio's passion, forcefulness, and determination, his alter ego The Man In Black took on the worse traits of his sign. He was jealous of Teddy Flood's affections for Dolores, obsessive about finding the inner meaning of the park, and secretive about the erosion of his mental state.

Sagittarius - Caleb Nichols

A young man ruled by a predetermined life cycle in the real world outside of Westworld, Caleb Nichols was given a different sort of sentience when he encountered Dolores Abernathy. One of the best Westworld characters introduced after season 1, after he was woken to the reality of his imprisonment, he set out to destroy the limitations of his freedoms.

Honest and straightforward like many Sagittarius, Caleb was optimistic at the chance for a better world. His reckless alliance with Dolores paid off, and his faith in her mission resulted in him being the leader of humankind's revolution.

Capricorn - Charlotte Hale

Charlotte Hale in Westworld

One of the most ambitious figureheads at Delos Inc., Charlotte Hale worked her way up the corporate ladder from a supervisory role monitoring the parks of Delos Destinations to sitting at the head of the Board of Directors.

Like a true Capricorn, Hale was ambitious, disciplined, and above all patient. She played the long-game, one that her demise would not even prevent her from seeing through. She held deep grudges, and her ire once directed at an enemy was truly a conflagration.

Aquarius - Dr. Robert Ford

Robert Ford in Westworld

The contemplative pioneer of Westworld was Dr. Robert Ford, whose ingenuity with artificial intelligence allowed him to create some of the most life-like robotic hosts the world had ever seen. Ruminations on synthetic lifeforms and how they relate to organic life make up some of Dr. Ford's best quotes.

Ford could be both broadly imaginative and possess exacting standards, as well as intensely emotive and emotionally detached, highlighting the contrary nature of an Aquarius. He preferred to work independent of the Delos Board of Directors, and indeed programmed much of Westworld to work at his command.

Pisces - Serac

Engerraund Serac looks in the distance in his office in Westworld.

Serac and his brother set about creating Solomon and later Rehoboam to better humanity, using their AI systems to help engineer society by predicting its future based on data from its past.

Serac's enormous imagination and idealism as a Pisces, once considered so selfless, became escapist over the years he worked on building Incite. He began to conceal many secrets, one of which was that he was weak-willed and had become completely controlled by Rehoboam.

Cancer - Clementine Pennyfeather

Clementine Pennyfeather on a staircase in Westworld

Clementine Pennyfeather went through quite a transformation after season 1, when she appeared as one of Maeve's good-hearted saloon girls. As her host was killed and then reborn, she returned more and more hardened and remorseless.

Prudent, calm, and loyal, Clementine has proven herself to be one of Halores's most worthwhile trustees to her plan of world domination in season 4. Like a Cancer, Clementine is able to assess many possible outcomes at once and choose the correct one, even if it results in someone else's death (as long as it's not her own).

Libra - Hector Escaton

Hector Escaton in Westworld

In one of the most iconic scenes of any Westworld character, smoldering outlaw Hector Escaton completed his narrative arc in the park, robbing a bank, shooting up the streets, and making a stop at the saloon for a kiss from Maeve. After season 1, he helped arm her and escape from the park along with a cadre of highly trained men.

Living up to his Libra sign, Hector was most definitely a lover and a fighter, with his passion coming through in his feelings for Maeve and in his bloody work. Sadly, circumstances in season 3 forced their parting, but some hosts are never really gone.

Leo - Frankie/C

Aurora Perrineau as Frankie and Aaron Paul as Caleb in Westworld

When Frankie was first introduced in season 4, it was as the young daughter of Caleb Nichols, but midway through the season C appeared, and it was made clear by Bernard that she was Frankie grown up, and part of a separate timeline destined to save the world.

Like a true Leo, C proved herself a capable leader with a strong sense of loyalty, showing Bernard not only where to locate the weapon the resistance could use to destroy Halores, but pledging herself to help him use it.

Scorpio - Lee Sizemore

Westworld Character Guide Lee

Although he wasn't considered a likable element in the series when he was introduced as a Delos company man, Lee Sizemore became slightly more intriguing after season 1 when he was forced to interact with the park more. Because he was in charge of park narrative and design, he was uniquely suited to understanding the gameplay of Westworld and Shogunworld, while having difficulties actually playing in them on the ground level.

With Scorpio's shrewdness and an eye for seeing the bigger picture, he survived by paying attention to details deemed unimportant by others, and by the time tragedy struck Lee, he would have been forgiven some of his worse transgressions.
