IFC Films' Werewolves Within has received its first trailer. The horror-comedy is based on the 2016 Ubisoft VR release of the same name, a Mafia-style game where medieval villagers must determine which of them is a werewolf—before it's too late. Directed by Josh Ruben, the film will be the former CollegeHumor star's second directorial effort after his 2020 Sundance Selection Scare Me

Now, IFC Films has released the first trailer for Werewolves Within. Opening on the sleepy, snowy town of Beaverfield, a cutesy will-they-won't-they between a postal worker and a park ranger is stalled by the arrival of werewolves. When a snowstorm forces the town to sequester itself in a local inn, trust erodes and tensions rise as neighbors must hunt for the monsters in their midst. The trailer also highlights the film's deep ensemble cast, including Veep's Sam Richardson and This Is Us' Milana Vayntrub. Casual's Michaela Watkins, What We Do In the Shadows' Harvey Guillén, and American Horror Story's Cheyenne Jackson also star. Following successful murder mystery films like Knives OutWerewolves Within should be the next whodunnit to blend eclectic genres to unique effect. Lycanthropes in general have experienced a bit of a resurgence in the booming horror-comedy genre. Last year's The Wolf of Snow Hollow and Guillén's own What We Do In the Shadows TV series have taken advantage of the humorous aspects of werewolves – dog breath, their use of a lunar calendar, etc. – to soften their more horrifically murderous sides. With the hope it can toe that same line, Werewolves Within will invade theaters on June 25 before coming to video on demand July 2.
