Spoilers for Werewolf By Night!Marvel Studio's Werewolf By Night introduces MCU fans to the darker side of the Marvel Universe with a deep dive into comic book lore. Werewolf By Night faces off against several monster hunters in the Halloween Special, but much bigger threats lurk in the comics. As he goes forward in the MCU, he's likely to face off against his most powerful comic book villains.

A major Werewolf By Night villain, Moon Knight, already exists in live-action. Werewolf By Night confronts similar antiheroes in the comics, including Morbius, as the line between hero and villain and monster and human blurs. Moon Knight's presence in the MCU hints at major battles to come for Jack Russell and for fans eager to learn where his story goes next.

The Hangman (Harlan Krueger)

The Hangman attacks Werewolf By Night in Marvel Comics.

Several Hangmen exist in Marvel Comics. Russell fought Harlan Krueger in Werewolf By Night #11. The Hangman possessed no superpowers, instead relying on his lassoing and roping skills. He most often used an Executioner's noose to try and hang people. He also used a razor-scythe with a long reach, making him hard to get to.

His military experience afforded him some combat training, but he mostly leaned on his rope skills. These proved dangerous but ineffective and ultimately he died in battle.

Tatterdemalion

Tatterdemalion is seen here on the cover of Ghost Rider #55 attacking Johnny Blaze as Jack Russel jumps in to save him.

Tatterdemalion lacked superpowers and supernatural skills, but that didn't stop him from taking on some heavy hitters in Marvel Comics. His brash confidence and a pair of specialized gloves that allowed him to break through any kind of bindings served as his primary assets in battles with Werewolf By Night, Ghost Rider, and other heroes.

e also wore a scarf that also served as a bolo he could throw at enemies, as he did against Werewolf By Night. He later joined the Night Shift, a collective that proved more powerful than he did individually.

The Committee

The Committee plots against Moon Knight in Marvel Comics.

The Committee combined the knowledge, resources, and influence of several prominent international business leaders. They used their power mostly to boost their incomes by artificially stimulating crises around the world. They ran afoul of Werewolf By Night thanks to his stepfather's involvement in the organization.

The Committee lacked superpowers and also had no morals or ethics. This enabled them to kill Jack Russell's mother as well as hire Moon Knight to kill him when he became too much of a problem. They eventually also turned on Marc Spector, becoming one of Moon Knight's most powerful villains.

Night Shift

Night Shift, avillainous group, assembles in Marvel Comics.

Tatterdemalion linked up with other supervillains to form Night Shift. This team, including the Brothers Grimm, Dansen Macabre, Digger, the Gypsy Moth, the Needle, the Shroud, and Tick-Tock combines numerous attributes including magic, telekinesis, and advanced martial arts to present a challenging Werewolf By Night villain.

Comic book fans know Werewolf By Night actually joined the team before fighting them. He worked with the Shroud to trick the villains into forming what they believed was a criminal enterprise. In fact, Shroud used the team to access the criminal underworld and undo it.

Sabretooth

Sabretooth prepares to attack in Marvel Comics.

With razor-sharp claws and teeth, a regenerative healing factor, and superhuman strength, Sabretooth ranks among the most powerful X-Men villains. He also fought Werewolf By Night in a battle that showed the contrast between the two men. While Russell fights his werewolf nature, Sabretooth indulges his bloodlust.

Sabretooth's lack of morality makes him beyond dangerous, with his crimes so vile he is one of the few former X-Men villains left out of Krakoan society. The White Council condemned him to a living prison within the island, though he's since discovered even more power.

Morbius

Morbius fights Werewolf in Marvel Comics.

Russell also sought a cure from Dr. Michael Morbius. A geneticist with personal experience in supernatural mutations, Morbius possesses extraordinary intelligence and inventiveness. As a vampire, he also wields superhuman strength, speed, and stamina. He can also fly, use echolocation, and hypnotize his enemies.

The two fought for the first time in Giant-Size Werewolf #4 in 1975. They later came to an accord and became colleagues on different superhero teams, including the Legion of Monsters and later the Midnight Sons.

Dr. Karl Malus

Werewolf By Night throws Dr. Karl Malus through a window in Marvel Comics.

Russell originally went to Dr. Karl Malus, a brilliant scientist focused on superhuman physiology, for a cure for his lycanthropy. Malus used his talents to continue experiments on living people, going so far as to trick Russell and place a control collar on him. This gave him complete control of Werewolf By Night and his powers.

Malus later significantly upgraded his abilities when he bonded with the Carnage symbiote. He became Superior Carnage, invested with superhuman strength, speed, and stamina, and with his intellect, ranks among the most powerful symbiotes in Marvel Comics.

Deadpool

Deadpool fights Werewolf By Night in Marvel Comics.

Deadpool ranks among the best martial artists in the Marvel Universe, a powerful mercenary skilled in various combat styles and weapons. He also enjoys a healing factor that makes him functionally immortal. Though Deadpool can die and has, he comes right back. He also possesses vast meta powers that make him aware he's a comic book character.

Deadpool and Werewolf clashed when Deadpool discovered Russell having an affair with his wife Shiklah. This led to a violent response from Deadpool and Shiklah bringing Russell back to life.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight fighting Werewolf by Night in his first Marvel Comics appearance.

Moon Knight battled Russell in his first-ever appearance in comics, Werewolf By Night #32. Moon Knight's powers fluctuate over time in the Marvel Universe, but he proved a worthy foe immediately thanks to his silver crescent darts. Moon Knight's exceptional fighting skills and advanced equipment also made him challenging.

Moon Knight also possesses immortality, thanks to the powers bestowed upon him by the Egyptian god Khonshu. His various personalities all feature their own skill sets, making Moon Knight extremely powerful.

Dracula

Dracula threatens a mob while carrying an unconscious woman in Marvel Comics.

Werewolf By Night fought another immortal supervillain in Dracula. Dracula possesses many superhuman attributes thanks to his vampirism, including the ability to fly. His real power lies in his considerable mystical ability. Dracula wields sorcery capable of fighting Doctor Strange, including controlling the dead.

Werewolf and Dracula fought in The Tomb of Dracula #18, but their enmity extends back centuries. The werewolf curse in Russell's family exists in part because his ancestor attacked Dracula for killing his wife. A werewolf serving Dracula then bit his ancestor. His lycanthropy ultimately extended to Russell in the 20th century thanks to his father's unwise experiments with The Darkhold.
