Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Werewolf by Night!

Elsa Bloodstone joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 4, and here is why she likely wants the Bloodstone in Werewolf by Night. The challenge of becoming the new owner of the Bloodstone weapon is at the core of Marvel's Special Presentation. Laura Donnelly's Elsa is one of several monster hunters who want to get the device. While she was meant to inherit it through her family bloodline after her father died, Elsa lost that privilege after abandoning her family for decades. Her return to Bloodstone Manor in Werewolf by Night is only so she can finally claim the Bloodstone as her own, even though the reason she wants it is vague.

Verussa questions Elsa about why she wants the red colored Bloodstone when she first arrives in Werewolf by Night, and it is in this exchange that the answer likely lies. The reason why Elsa wants the Bloodstone in Werewolf by Night is likely due to its protective powers. This is mentioned as one of the weapon's abilities by Verussa. While she does not explain what precisely the Bloodstone protects one from, the comics revealed that it makes one immune from vampiric infection. Since Elsa Bloodstone is a vampire hunter by trade, having immunity from their bites is a significant benefit in her line of work. The rest of the Bloodstone's powers are nice, as is reclaiming what is rightfully hers, but Werewolf by Night teases that the protection is the reason Elsa really wants it.

How Powerful The Bloodstone Makes Elsa

Werewolf by Night's Elsa Bloodstone

Elsa does come to possess the Bloodstone by Werewolf by Night's ending, meaning she will be much more powerful the next time she is seen. She is already a very strong fighter, but the Bloodstone will increase her physical strength, speed, agility, and more, based on the comics. The physical power that comes with the weapon is just a tiny piece of the puzzle. She will also be able to shoot energy blasts from her hands or copy her father's comic powers and shoot energy blasts from guns. There are even some magical properties to the Bloodstone, which could mean that Elsa Bloodstone's powers will become more mystic. The Bloodstone's powers will also make it so Elsa has a longer life, allowing her to return and look the same age regardless of when Werewolf by Night takes place in the MCU timeline.

Elsa will also be more powerful thanks to the Bloodstone's importance in the monster hunter community. Werewolf by Night reveals that whoever controls the Bloodstone becomes the leader of an unnamed monster-hunting group. While Elsa, Werewolf by Night, and Man-Thing kill all the other members present for the challenge, she can grow the ranks again to give herself a legion of monster hunters. This would then make Elsa even more powerful in the supernatural corner of the MCU, as she could have an entire battalion of skilled monster hunters at her disposal.

What Will Elsa Use The Bloodstone For Next?

Werewolf by Night Bloodstone

Now that Elsa has the Bloodstone, what she uses its power for next will be a fascinating development for her MCU story. The most likely outcome is that she will use the Bloodstone to give herself an advantage in fighting vampires. This could lead to Laura Donnelly's Elsa Bloodstone appearing in Blade alongside Mahershala Ali's Eric Brooks. It would make sense that the MCU would team up two of Marvel's biggest vampire hunters. Even with Blade's production struggles and rumors of it being a period piece, there is still room for Elsa to play a role and establish herself as a critical figure in the MCU's vampire world after Werewolf by Night.
