Welcome to Plathville follows the sheltered, strict, and unique Plath family. Kim and Barry Plath raised their children on a 55-acre Georgia farm, without TV, most technology, or much access to the modern world. As the kids have grown, the family's world has been forced to open up. That lead to some friction, especially once daughter in law Olivia joined the family.

Olivia married the eldest Plath child, Ethan, in October 2018. The 22-year-old's entry into the family lead to Ethan becoming more and more removed from his parents. Following in the mechanic's footsteps, some of his siblings began distancing themselves from their upbringing as well. Because of this, his wife has found herself in a somewhat antagonistic role on the show. But Olivia is more than Ethan's wife- and had her own transformative journey years before reality TV.

The pair met at a Christian fundamentalist summer camp about four years before they wed. The Virginia native also came from a big family, lived on a farm, was homeschooled, and raised very religious. But the camp sparked a major change for her family. Olivia spoke about this journey in a phone call to Katie Joy, who recapped it on her YouTube channel Without a Crystal Ball. The fourth of 10 children initially thought the camp would be a chance to experience new things. However, it was so upsetting her parents decided to leave the extreme and oppressive religion. That's not to say her family is drama free, as she's admitted to not speaking to her sister. Olivia recently opened up to People about going to therapy to deal with her past. Speaking of her and Ethan's similar experiences, the young wife said "we need to heal and process our own childhoods before we bring another child into this world."

While Ethan had a crush on her instantly, the future spouses didn't began dating until 2016. At first, Kim was ecstatic about the relationship. Even then, Olivia suspected the matriarch wanted the Plaths to be famous. She soon found herself butting heads with the family as she moved further and further away from the fundamentalist lifestyle.

Olivia's independence has made her a confidant for the equally spirited Moriah Plath. At her young age, she already has her own business as a professional wedding photographer. Often traveling for her job, it has further opened up her world and provided new experiences. As recapped in the Without a Crystal Ball video, the photographer previously watched her mother, a former teacher, struggle with losing her independence and having so many kids so quickly. In a gushing Mother's Day Instagram post, the blonde wrote "I want to be just like you when I grow up (except the ten kids part)".

The couple is not speaking to Ethan's parents, but they haven't cut off contact with the whole family. They spent the holidays with Ethan's younger brother Micah, who rebelled from his parents with his modeling career. It remains to be seen if Olivia will ever find common ground with her in-laws. Given how strained the Plaths are now, it also puts the future of Welcome to Plathville into question.
