TLC's Welcome To Plathville may only be in its second season, but fans are already anticipating a big family shakeup as Olivia Plath opened up about her marriage to Ethan Plath. It seems his marriage may be ending sooner than he realized.
Ethan Plath had a pretty romantic view of marriage in the beginning. Meanwhile, fans watched as his new wife Olivia struggled to blend into the large family through season one. Olivia's biggest source of tension is with her in-laws, Barry and Kim Plath. The couple has raised their brood of nine children under strict Christian and conservative values. Of course, their views haven't always fit in with the world outside of their remote southern Georgia family farm. Despite Olivia's desire to be with Ethan, she's not so sure the struggle with his parents is worth it.
As Kim Plath has criticized Olivia for everything from what she wears to the toothpaste brand she uses, Ethan has vowed to try and defend her from his parents. According to People, Ethan was quoted as saying, "We needed space as a couple, so we decided that that meant no contact with my parents." The family dynamics have certainly changed a lot in the past year. Ethan and Olivia have become estranged from his parents, and have had to fight hard to be able to see his siblings.
In fact, any visitation with his siblings must now be supervised and is typically reserved for bigger family outings. Not only that, but fans have watched as the family has now split up into three separate homes with Micah and Moriah renting a house a few doors down from their parents and brother. The relationship between Ethan and Olivia has become so strained because of the family drama that they are at the point where divorce is on the table. In the latest episode, Olivia admitted openly that if she had foreseen everything that was going to happen in their relationship and the relationship with his parents, she probably would have just walked away.
While Olivia seems more unsure about the marriage, Ethan has been steadfast. Most likely, the relationship between Ethan and Olivia will be saved as the couple is forced to distance themselves more and more from Ethan's parents. That being said, it will take a lot of change on Kim and Barry's part if they still want to be a part of Ethan's family. Inevitably, he may have children of his own and he will have to close the door on his parents' strict nature if he wants to continue in his marriage. Fans can only hold their breaths and see how Welcome To Plathville plays out.
