Since Welcome to Plathville season 3 ended, Kim and Barry Plath have undoubtedly been through their share of difficult times on the show. Their marriage has been tested as their family continues to be divided. Their children are distancing themselves even further, which has been a difficult reality for them to face. TLC recently released a preview of what fans can expect for the upcoming season 4, and it looks as if Kim and Barry’s relationship could be in trouble.

The candid and unconventional couple have been married for almost 25 years. In that time, they have had nine children and have raised them to follow strict expectations. Their marriage, and the life they built together, were presented as simple and idyllic. They surely couldn’t predict how far from that they would eventually become. Kim and Barry don’t have the best reputation when it comes to their parenting practices, and the strained relationship with their children is evidence of that. The devastating rift with their older son Ethan Plath has certainly taken a toll on the family. Viewers don’t know much about Kim and Barry aside from who they are as parents, but the upcoming Welcome to Plathville season 4 may be changing that altogether.

In the newly released trailer for Welcome to Plathville season 4, it is revealed that Kim and Barry are struggling in their marriage. Kim’s main focus has been being a wife and mother, and now she wants to find her identity outside of that. In a shockingly honest moment, Kim revealed, “I’m not happy with my marriage.” The patriarch of the family, Barry, is left grappling to understand what is going on and what this means for their future. This is the first time that Welcome to Plathville has alluded to any possible issues within their marriage. The surprising TLC trailer can be viewed below.

Now that the older children are growing up and have their own lives, this may lead to some changes in the Plath family home. Kim and Barry have been so caught up in what their children are doing that they may need to stop and evaluate their marriage. They have been through a lot of changes in the past few years, and it hasn’t been addressed directly. Kim's parenting style may be evolving, but she makes a lot of the decisions in the household, and it doesn’t look like that is going to be changing any time soon.

Welcome to Plathville season 4 is set to premiere Tuesday, May 17th at 10 p.m. ET. Presumably, the new season will largely feature Kim and Barry’s relationship and how they are navigating the myriad of changes, and where they go from there. This unexpected turn of events will hopefully allow viewers to get to know a different side of Kim and Barry.
