Kim Plath is definitely one of the most disliked Welcome to Plathville cast members, and fans think that she prefers one of her children to another. Her narcissistic behavior, manipulative actions, and overbearing attitude have turned fans against her. However, it's possible that she is changing her way of thinking, at least when it comes to her son, Micah Plath.
The mother of nine has always prided herself on her strict morals and beliefs. They are what guided her in terms of how she would teach and raise her children. This started to become an issue, as she and her husband (the patriarch of the family, Barry Plath), continually isolated their children from the real world. This remained the case even as they began to come of age.
The kids didn’t experience much of life outside of the family farm until the eldest child, Ethan Plath, had the opportunity to move out and begin to live life his own way. Of course, this didn’t always please his parents, who continued to keep tabs on Ethan and what he was up to. Signs are pointing towards the fact that Kim may favor Micah over Moriah Plath, perhaps because she is more supportive of his lifestyle and endeavors. Now, it's time to take a look at Kim’s behavior towards Micah, in contrast to her treatment of her daughter, Moriah.
Living in LA
Now that Micah is living on his own in Los Angeles and pursuing his modeling career, he is being exposed to a lot more than he ever was back home in Cairo. His mom doesn’t seem to have an issue with this, as she didn’t try to discourage him from going, or lecture him about all of the potential dangers he could encounter. Moriah experienced the opposite when she wanted to go to California with her sister-in-law Olivia Plath. That getaway was a business trip for wedding photographer Olivia, and Kim was against it from the beginning. Although Kim did end up letting Olivia go, she was reluctant, and was clear about all of the negative things that Moriah might see, and the pitfalls that might develop.
Modeling Career
When Micah decided that he wanted to model professionally, Kim was unsure what to think, but she let him make that decision for himself. When Moriah was looking into attending college and thinking about what she wanted to major in, Kim didn’t feel comfortable with her going. Instead of being supportive and encouraging her to discover what college life was all about, she shared her own college experience with her, to deter her from attending. She feared that Moriah would want to party rather than focusing on her studies, as she had done. She didn’t trust Moriah enough to let her choose for herself.
Relationships
At the Plath farm, none of the kids had the opportunity to make friends, let alone form romantic relationship. Micah has had a few casual relationships, but they have never led to anything serious. Kim never told Micah that she would like to get to know any of his girlfriends by requesting that he bring them over to meet her. Kim didn’t try to meddle (or even be involved in) his love life. The same can’t be said for Moriah, as Kim was interested in meeting her boyfriend at the time, Max Kallschmidt.
Kim mentioned in the past that she sees a lot of herself in Moriah, as Kim once had a wild side, and that could be why she doesn’t want to give her the same range of trust and freedom. Now that Kim is seeing the impact that her parenting has had, she may be starting to try and do things differently. To find out, fans will have to tune into the new season of Welcome to Plathville.
