Ethan Plath from Welcome to Plathville has been the target of fans in recent months for choosing his wife Olivia Plath over his own mother and father. Some diehard TLC viewers believe that Ethan is being a bad son. However, others feel that he has done the right thing by distancing himself from his conservative family.

Welcome to Plathville Season 2 ended with quite a curfuffle as Barry Plath and Ethan faced off over some family tension. When the Plath family first hit the small screen, viewers found their way of life extremely strange, especially since Barry and Kim Plath lived such normal lives before having children. The strict parents chose to bring their children up by homeschooling them and refusing them the joy of Coca-Cola. The last season amplified the distance between their eldest son Ethan and his wife, Olivia. Kim and Barry made it clear that they didn’t want Ethan and Olivia's modern ways to corrupt their younger children.

On IG, Ethan shocked fans when he shared that the family would be back for Season 3 on August 24. However, fan reactions were not all positive, as some wrote that they were only interested in seeing the children that are living with Kim and Barry. One Welcome to Plathville fan felt that Ethan had been too rude to his father, writing, "Shame on him." Surprisingly, instead of jumping on the bandwagon, some fans came to Ethan's defense, asking the follower if they watched the same show they did. See Ethan's post below:

Numerous followers reiterated that once Ethan was married, his duty was to his wife, not his parents. Barry and Kim made their daughter-in-law very uncomfortable. It was also noted that Olivia took part in some rude interviews where she rolled her eyes with a fan, writing, "She DID NOT try hard." However, the majority of Welcome to Plathville fans were on Ethan's side. The general consensus was that if their partner was allowing their parents to verbally abuse them, they would not stand for it. The only family member who commented on the post was Moriah Plath, who noted how shocked she was to see her brother on social media.

For a few months, Ethan stopped posting on his Instagram and other social media outlets. He broke his quiet streak on May 14. Welcome to Plathville season 3 is set to pick up where the last season left off. According to TLC, the family is still splintered into three separate households. The new season will concentrate on the older kids and their journey through life.
