Part of Amazon Prime's new horror movie series, Welcome to the Blumhouse, The Lie boasts an excellent cast of unique characters, portrayed by faces many audiences will recognize. Here's the entire cast and their characters from Blumhouse Productions' new movie, The Lie.
The movie follows a young girl named Kayla (Joey King) who has a lie she mustn't tell anyone. When her parents discover what it is, they are forced to help her out of the fear they could lose their daughter forever. The Lie released on October 6, 2020 alongside Black Box as a part of the eight movie series, Welcome to the Blumhouse. Each installment in the Amazon Prime horror series comes from a different director who have each crafted their own stories that include terrifying events related to subjects like technology, family drama, and deadly competitions.
Blumhouse is known for its highly successful horror movie franchises such as Paranormal Activity, The Purge, and Happy Death Day. However, Welcome to the Blumhouse isn't their first foray into the world of streaming platform releases or even the anthology horror framework. Hulu currently hosts another of Blumhouse's anthology series, Into the Dark, which is a holiday-centric anthology; Into the Dark season 2 has been airing on Hulu as of November 2019. While a different platform and approach, Welcome to the Blumhouse provides what many horror fans have come to expect from the production company — a bevy of talent, tight scares, and unique plots. Here's every character and actor in The Lie, and where audiences recognize them from.
Joey King
Joey King of The Kissing Booth movies portrays Kayla, a young girl whose secrets and lies lead to catastrophe. King has already had a successful career in the horror genre. She portrayed Christine in the first The Conjuring movie, and starred as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in the Hulu original series, The Act. Joey King returns to Blumhouse with an unsettling role that she perfectly executes in The Lie.
Peter Sarsgaard
Kayla's dad, Jay, is played by Peter Sarsgaard. The actor will portray District Attorney Gil Colson in the upcoming The Batman movie. He is known for his roles in The Skeleton Key, Kinsey, and Garden State. In The Lie, Sarsgaard is a devoted dad who will stop at nothing to ensure that his daughter is safe from harm, even if it means building on Kayla's original lie.
Mireille Enos
Mireille Enos acts alongside Sarsgaard as Kayla's mother, Rebecca. She is an anxious woman who is sick of dealing with her daughter's lies to get out of trouble and various other tasks she's responsibility for handling. Kayla's lie may bring Rebecca to her breaking point, but The Lie establishes that family sticks together, no matter the cost. Mireille Enos is known for her roles in Good Omens and If I Stay.
Devery Jacobs
Kayla's good friend Britney is played by Devery Jacobs. The audience doesn't know much about the character other than the fact that she is also a liar. Jacobs has starred in television series such as The Order as Lilith Bathory and Cardinal as Sam Duchene.
Cas Anvar
Cas Anvar plays Sam, Britney's concerned father. He isn't one of the main cast members but he does make a relatively big impact on the ways that each character navigates their environment after Kayla reveals her secret to her parents. Anvar portrays Taj Roy in Cardinal as well as Robert Hsieh in How To Get Away With Murder.
Dani Kind
Dani Kind plays Jay's girlfriend, Trini. She serves as a plot device that adds an extra layer of tension between Jay and his ex-wife, Rebecca, and plays into his relationship with Kayla. Dani Kind most notably portrays Anne Carlson in Workin' Moms.
Patti Kim
Patti Kim's character, Detective Kenji, is driven to solve the lies and secrets building throughout the movie's entirety. She is a longtime friend of Rebecca's. Kim is known for her role as Carol Chiwewe in The Expanse.
Nicholas Lea
Alongside Detective Kenji is her partner Detective Barnes, who is played by Nicholas Lea. He is the bad cop to Patti Smith's good cop, and persists in an overly aggressive interview process with each possible suspect. This isn't the first time Nicholas Lea has portrayed a detective. From 1994-2002, Lea portrayed Alex Krycek in the highly successful sci-fi series The X-Files. Welcome to the Blumhouse gives Lea and the other actors in The Lie ample time to shine.
