Devolver Digital announced the upcoming game Weird West during The Game Awards, and published a trailer on its official YouTube channel. Weird West is the debut project of WolfEye, a company founded by Raphael Colantonio, the former President and Creative director of Arkane Studios, and Julien Roby, former Executive Producer at Arkane Studios.

Arkane Studios is best known as the co-creator of the popular game franchise Dishonoredand the survival shooter title, Prey. After announcing that the Dishonored franchise would have been on a hiatus until further notice, Arkane announced an upcoming action game, Deathloop, at E3 2019. The company is also credited for providing development support for two fan favorites, Call of Duty: World at War and BioShock 2.

Devolver Digital released Weird West's reveal trailer online the same day the game was presented on stage at The Game Awards. The upcoming title will be a role-play adventure that takes place in a Wild West re-imagined with dark fantasy elements. Plus, the player's choices will impact the outcome of the story, which is all about a group of unconventional heroes and their origins. Watch the trailer, below.

The first scene of the trailer shows a stylized 2D canyon landscape, along with some unsettling characters. Later in the video, there are quality 3D graphics that very probably come from the game itself. However, no actual gameplay is shown for now. Plus, the trailer provides an important clue about the rating of the upcoming game: since there's plenty of blood, it's unlikely that Weird West will be suitable for children. The video already reached 105,099 views and 1765 likes, and the fans expressed a lot of enthusiasm about it in the comments, especially because they trust Devolver to always provide quality games.

Given the previous successes of Arkane's team, it's very likely that Weird West will create a lot of hype in the gaming community. It's clear that the fans have big expectations about the upcoming title, and that they're looking forward to a great gaming experience, like the one offered by Dishonored and Prey. However, the game is still in its early development phases, so it's probably too soon to tell if the new title will keep up with the reputation of Arkane's bestsellers. Fans will have to wait until Devolver and WolfEye publish a gameplay trailer to learn more about Weird West but, for now, it's certain that the game will attract the attention of all the fans of alternate history.
