Movie fans gets Branded as Hop and Arthur top the box office; Anna Karenina turns into Atonement 2; Keanu Reeves is a Man of Tai Chi; Sofia Vergara is a Stooge and Wahlberg plays Bait and Switch.
The original Arthur was caught between the moon and New York City, but the remake seems to be caught between Hop and Hanna.
You could say that Russell Brand is the real winner this weekend, considering that he has Hop at number one, and Arthur at two, however it looks like the British star may not get another chance to headline another live action film – at least not for a while due to Arthur’s lackluster debut. Hop brought in another $21.7 million for a $68.2 million total, while Arthur had a flaccid $12.6 million debut. It looks like the profit margin for Arthur may be on the rocks.
Teen assassin action film Hanna was third after grossing an impressive $12.3 million. The film, which sees Atonement director Joe Wright reunited with Saoirse Ronan opened to good reviews (read ours here) and it may go on to have solid legs in the future.
Drama Soul Surfer debuted at four with a solid $11.1 million. The film charts the trials and tribulations of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm in a shark attack. AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt star.
Insidious was fifth after banking another $9.7 million. The $1 million budgeted horror film has now brought in over $27 million since last week’s debut.
Comedy Your Highness (read our review) failed to find any major audience after grossing just $9.5 million. The Natalie Portman and James Franco starring riff on 80s fantasy films will have to find its audience on the home entertainment circuit.
Duncan Jones’ Source Code held up well following last weekend’s solid start. The Jake Gyllenhaal-led film brought in another $9 million for a $28.6 million total. The main question: Will Jones be tempted to helm The Wolverine?
Limitless banked another $5.6 million for a total over $64 million, while fellow holdovers Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 and The Lincoln Lawyer both fought it out for ninth place. Kid nabbed roughly $4.8 million, while Lawyer brought in $4.6 million. The family film has now banked $45 million, while the Matthew McConaughey legal thriller has grossed over $46 million.

2. Keanu Reeves has announced his intentions to direct his first feature film. The Matrix star told MTV:
"It's called Man of Tai Chi. We want to do it in Chinese and English, do it as kind of a co-production with CFG perhaps, which is a Chinese film group, kind of a studio. It's tricky.”
Reeves went on to say that he would play the villain in the film, which he intends to be action packed:
"There's 18 fights. We've timed it out. It's about 40 minutes of fighting. I want to make a good, solid kung fu movie. Good story, good plot — but let's get some good kung fu going!"
Reeves is currently hard at work on the samurai film 47 Ronin.
Sean Hayes will star as Larry and Will Sasso will play Curly in the Farrelly Brothers film, which is currently Moe-less.
The film which has spent almost a decade in development film should hit screens next year.
4. Mark Wahlberg is eyeing a new action/comedy called Bait and Switch.
Little is known about the project which is currently being developed by Universal Pictures - other than it is based on a spec script by Matthew J. O'Neill.
Wahlberg has a packed slate so Bait and Switch will have to get behind a slew of other potential films that are vying for the attentions of The Fighter star.
That’s it for now. See you at the movies.
