Leighton Meester stars in the trailer for Netflix’s The Weekend Away. A crime thriller based on Sarah Alderson’s novel of the same name, The Weekend Away tells the story of two best friends and what happens when their planned fun vacation takes a turn for the worst. Executive produced by Alderson and directed by Kim Farrant, who previously helmed the Nicole Kidman drama Strangerland in addition to the 2019 thriller Angel of Mine, the adaptation is set to make its premiere on March 3.

The trailer for The Weekend Away offers a preview of what viewers can expect, as Beth (Meester) and Kate (Christina Wolfe) decide to enjoy a weekend in Croatia. Though she’s reluctant to take the trip at first since she’s married with a baby, Beth ultimately agrees to tag along with her single friend. The trip starts out wonderfully, but becomes a nightmare when Kate’s lifeless body is discovered and Beth emerges as a prime suspect. Watch the trailer, uploaded by Netflix, below:

Along with Wolfe and Meester, known for her portrayal of Blair Waldorf in the original Gossip Girl, and currently recurring on How I Met Your Father as Meredith, The Weekend Away also stars Ziad Bakri, Luke Norris, and Amar Bukvic. The role represents Meester’s return to leading movie roles, as the actress was a main cast member on the ABC sitcom Single Parents for two seasons.

The official synopsis for The Weekend Away reads as follows: “A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman (Leighton Meester) is accused of killing her best friend (Christina Wolfe) and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret.
