Emma Myers, who portrays Enid Sinclair in Wednesday, details her experience training at a real-life werewolf camp in preparation for her role. Wednesday is the first Addams Family adaptation to center around the titular character, which sees Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) separated from her family by attending boarding school. A global phenomenon, Wednesday currently stands as Netflix’s third most-watched show, only behind Squid Game and Stranger Things.
Myers reveals on The Tonight Show that she underwent werewolf boot camp to portray Enid. Alongside her onscreen brothers, Myers had to prepare for episode 6 in order to get into the “werewolf spirit.” She shares that the training involved a lot of “parkour,” “running,” and “leaping.” Stuntmen even acted as “sheep,” so that Myers and her Wednesday costars could circle around them. We did this werewolf bootcamp one time because there’s episode six where the parents come and all the family comes. I had four or five brothers and they really had to get them in the werewolf spirit. So they asked me to come in and do, you know, werewolf bootcamp, and I was like ‘what does this mean’... I’ve never done so much parkour in my life, running on the floor on all fours, leaping over things. We had these stunt guys pretending to be sheep, and we would like, crawl around them in a circle.
Werewolf Camp Means Something Different For Enid In The Actual Show
Enid is a late bloomer and at the start of the show, has not yet undergone a full werewolf transformation — with only her claws coming out during bursts of emotion. Werewolf summer camp functions as a means for young werewolves like her to finally transition and “wolf out.” The topic of lycanthropy is anxiety-inducing for Enid, who knows that if she doesn’t make the transformation, she will be isolated from the rest of her family. She also feels added pressure from her mother, who nags her to attend a camp and is disappointed at Enid’s lack of werewolf progress, amongst other things. Referred to at times as a “conversion camp,” the prospect of a camp is a source of dread for Enid, who is not yet ready for the transformation. In the midst of coming to Wednesday’s rescue at the end of the season, Enid, however, transforms into a wolf for the first time.
Is Wednesday Being Renewed For Season 2?
With the combination of a stellar cast — with Ortega’s star-making performance at the forefront, iconic franchise precedence, and visual appeal, viewers are hungry for more Wednesday. No official announcement has come out about a second season, but all roads are leading to renewal. Netflix also confirmed last month that they would release news about the future of the show at the beginning of 2023. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar relayed that they’ve already mapped out upcoming seasons and hinted that season 2 will focus more on the relationships between fan-favorite duo Wednesday and Enid, as well as Wednesday and her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). The mystery of Wednesday’s stalker will also likely be addressed, as foreshadowed in the finale.
As evidenced in her stint at werewolf bootcamp, Myers is fully committed to portraying the beloved Enid. Optimistic, friendly, and colorful, Enid is the polar opposite of Wednesday’s gothic personality, but also her perfect complement. It’s no surprise that Gough and Millar will hone in on Wednesday and Enid’s friendship, given the characters’ delightful dynamic and the actors’ tangible chemistry. While waiting for any updates, fans in the meantime are looking forward to seeing on January 10 whether Wednesday will snatch up any Golden Globes for its two well-deserved nominations.
