Wednesday star Jenna Ortega explains why the relationship between Wednesday Addams and her Nevermore roommate Enid Sinclair is one of her favorite dynamics. In the new Netflix series, Wednesday is enrolled in a boarding school for outcasts, Nevermore, after being expelled from her high school. When she arrives, Wednesday is pulled into multiple mysteries, a prophecy, and her own strengthening abilities as a psychic. Wednesday's standoffish nature, cynical view of the world, insatiable curiosity, and dark sense of humor make it hard for her to connect with her fellow students although a few do try.

The most important relationship on the show may be between Wednesday and Enid Sinclair, her werewolf roommate. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Ortega breaks down the dynamic relationship between Wednesday and Enid. Ortega also explains why this duo, who embody the old adage "opposites attract," is one of her favorite dynamics.

It's so easy to be moved by Emma Myers. It is so easy. She's such a sweetheart, and Enid is such a ray of sunshine. And I think that's scary to Wednesday, which is why she likes it. It's very easy to toe the line with her, and I think that dynamic was very natural.

Everyone knows that super sunny, happy person and that super dark, depressing person. When they get together, there's something really relatable and beautiful about it. Those are always my favorite dynamics, and I think it came very naturally.

Why Roomies Beats Romance Any Day On Wednesday

The dichotomy between Wednesday and Enid immediately brings a new element into Wednesday's dark and gloomy world. Ortega's insight into Wednesday being drawn to Enid because of fear is intriguing. Enid's cheerful disposition initially puts Wednesday off, but the discomfort draws her in and adds a new layer to their early interactions. Enid is one of the first people to make an effort with Wednesday, and although there are difficulties in their relationship, the pair form a strong bond.

It is extremely rare for Wednesday to crack a real smile, but her sharp edges begin to soften with Enid as early as the first episode, when the two roommates begin to open up to one another. Enid is one of the first people Wednesday makes an effort for, although she initially has ulterior motives. Her soft spot for Enid becomes especially clear when she goes out of her way to protect her feelings. Wednesday's growth and compassion grew not from the potential romances introduced but through her friendships with Enid and Eugene.

While Wednesday is an incredibly brave young woman as an investigator and author, her fears and insecurities are part of what drives her. Enid is one of the few people who challenges Wednesday; she pushes her to evolve and form ties with people outside her family. Wednesday's burgeoning psychic abilities and classic wit are tied to her dark disposition and outlook on the world. Forcing her to confront a different perspective while slowly revealing the similarities between these two characters, who are polar opposites on the surface, opens up a new aspect of Wednesday. She would not have developed into the powerful hero she is by the end of Wednesday's first season if it hadn't been for Enid.
