Much like Nickelodeon did with the recent release of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, Warner Bros. seems poised to undertake its own Super Smash Bros.-inspired crossover fighting game with the rumored development of Warner Bros. Multiversus. The first leaks hinting towards the game's existence emerged about a week ago, and now it appears as though a potential list of fighters for Multiversus has also been uncovered. While it remains to be seen how accurate the leak is, it can at least provide some insight towards the direction Warner Bros. might be headed with the supposed development of the game.

For quite some time, it appeared as though Nintendo owned the Smash-style fighting game formula. Although contenders to that title have emerged in the past, like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale in 2012, none have garnered as much attention as 2021's Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, the success of which arguably proved that a new genre has been successfully launched around the Super Smash Bros. formula. It's no surprise that other companies such as Warner Bros. might be looking to move in that direction when it comes to game development. Warner Bros. Multiversus could simply be the next of many crossover fighter titles to appear in the coming years.

The title Multiversus first emerged following a trademark filed by Warner Bros., and reported test sessions as claimed by the original leaker. Although thus far, no official confirmation has been provided for the prospective game, known insiders have provided additional information such as the fact that NetherRealm Studios isn't the studio behind its development as previously claimed. Among the Warner Bros. characters rumored for the fighting game are Scooby-Doo's Shaggy, Cartoon Network's Johnny Bravo, and even characters from the studio's Harry Potter film franchise. It appears as though Warner Bros. Multiversus is already headed towards having a diverse range of fighters and franchises to pick from, especially now that some of the game's starting characters may have been revealed.

Every Warner Bros. Multiversus Fighter Revealed So Far

Warner Brothers Smash Game Rick Morty Shaggy

A (now deleted) image in a Tweet posted by Twitter user LiquidHbox on October 27 revealed what was rumored to be the character select screen for Warner Bros. Multiversus, the attached image of which was later flagged for copyright infringement and removed from the Tweet, perhaps lending more credibility to the leak. The same user's video of the screen on YouTube was likewise blocked by Warner Bros. on copyright grounds. Despite the lack of footage, the list of visible fighters from the character select screen is still available to read and contains the following characters and franchises:

  • Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo franchise
  • Steven from Cartoon Network's Steven Universe
  • Batman and Harley Quinn from the DC universe
  • Finn and Jake from Cartoon Network's Adventure Time
  • Superman and Wonder Woman from DC comics
  • Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings
  • Rick from Adult Swim's Rick and Morty
  • Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes
  • Tom and Jerry from the Tom and Jerry franchise

Also included is a character that is presumed to be entirely new and perhaps exclusive to Warner Bros. Multiversus. Each character appears to have a symbol associated with them that could represent their fighting style or some other as-of-yet unknown mechanic, which may serve to set Multiversus apart from similar titles such as Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. More characters are likely to be revealed with time as official news begins to emerge about the game, but for the time being, this should at least provide prospective players with some idea of which other characters and stages are likely to make an appearance in Warner Bros. Multiversus.
