Warning: SPOILERS for Justice League #34

The Justice League is headed for the biggest battle they have ever faced, and they're calling in back-up from across the DC Multiverse. Which means it's finally time for Watchmen's own nocturnal hero, Nite Owl, to get his due.

The iconic hero may wish he had passed on this battle, however, since Lex Luthor has assembled an army unlike any before, upgrading classic DC villains to more dangerous levels than they ever dreamed of. To give themselves a fighting chance, DC's heroes have spread out across time in search of help, starting with the Justice League Unlimited stars of the future. But no hero called upon from a parallel reality seems more surprising than Dan Dreiberg a.k.a. Nite Owl, proving he's still ready for one last fight.

The inclusion of the Red Son Superman lifted from his Soviet reality, or even the presence of the Kingdom Come Justice League may steal a reader's attention (with good reason, let's be honest). But for fans of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons is the former Crimebuster leaping into action behind them:

Justice League Comic Nite Owl Battle

Seeing Nite Owl appear is certainly less of a shocking cameo than it would have been before Doomsday Clock brought Watchmen into DC's Multiverse (more explicitly than ever could have been argued before). In fact, it's now possible for fans to interpret the presence of Dan Dreiberg alongside the Justice League as the presence of one version of Dan Dreiberg, plucked from who knows which timeline? Officially, the sequel series confirmed that Nite Owl and Silk Spectre got a happy ending after all. Since this version of Dan looks to be him in his prime--and considering the continuity issues it might cause--it's best to say this may not be the ones fans known from the original Watchmen graphic novel.

  • "The Justice Doom War" part five! All Hypertime is breaking! If it blows, all of reality will follow after-which would be just fine for Lex Luthor, who is ready to prove to the evil goddess Perpetua that he's the bad man for her. The Justice League is attempting to do what they can, chasing the Legion of Doom across the time-sphere. If the Totality is put back together, the whole Multiverse will tip toward Doom...and have consequences that reverberate throughout the DC Universe-assuming it's not destroyed in the process.

Justice League #34 is available now from your local comic book shop, or direct from DC Comics.
