The Emmy Award-winning creator of Watchmen, Damon Lindelof, is reportedly working on a new Star Wars film. Lindelof, also known for co-creating Lost and The Leftovers, is regarded for his ambitious storytelling, bizarre twists, sprawling ensembles, and unique structures, all points that would fit well within the Star Wars canon. Outside of television, Lindelof has contributed to such films as Star Trek Into DarknessTomorrowland, and The Hunt.

Star Wars needs no introduction as the epic space opera that has defined a generation of pop culture and storytelling. With the franchise recently being sold to Disney, projects for it have been getting greenlit continuously with new movies, TV shows, video games, theme park rides, and merchandise coming from the acquisition. The franchise's latest offering, Obi-Wan Kenobi, is set to premiere on May 25 on Disney+.

A new rumor comes from a tweet made by Jeff Sneider, a reporter from The Ankler, saying that Lindelof is working on a new Star Wars film. Little else is known about the project, but Lindelof's reputation in television speaks for itself, sparking excitement from fans. With Lindelof's tendencies for large casts and multi-faceted narratives, there are many parts of the Star Wars universe where his talents could be well utilized. See the tweet below:

Lindelof worked on Lost with co-creator J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, making Lindelof a natural choice to pen a new Star Wars film. However, Lindelof's success has often been on the small screen rather than the big one, suggesting that a spinoff of The Mandalorian or another original TV show might be a better fit for the screenwriter. Given the mixed reception of The Book of Boba Fett, it would be a good idea to bring in more writers to shape future installments of the Star Wars television shows.

Given the ever-shifting and changing nature of the business, there's a decent chance that Lindelof's Star Wars film might not be made at all, or will be rewritten as the production goes on. Being so early in the process, there's so much room for speculation that anything is possible at this point, with rumors and hearsay just as relevant as facts. But, given Lindeloff's impressive track record, not to mention his pitch-perfect handling of the Watchmen intellectual property, any potential Star Wars project is safe in his hands, and hopefully, it'll end up being as impressive and ambitious as his small-screen projects.
