Ubisoft is gearing up to deliver new content to Watch Dogs: Legion after announcing the new Legions of the Dead DLC for all platforms. Watch Dogs: Legion is the third entry in the open-world hacker franchise, and Ubisoft has shown continued support for the game post-launch through paid DLC and free updates. However, with the announcement of Legions of the Dead, Ubisoft seems poised to release the franchise’s most unique DLC to date by throwing zombies into the mix.

Legions of the Dead will be included in the game’s Title Update 4.5, which will be released on June 1. The mode will initially be released in Alpha form on the PC version of Watch Dogs: Legion, and a release on all platforms will take place later in the summer. The mode will remain in a Beta state so Ubisoft can continue to update and make changes based on the feedback of players in the Watch Dogs: Legion multiplayer community.

During an interview with IGN, online director Jean Pascal Cambiotti spoke about the team’s decision to include the outlandish mode in a game that typically focuses on stealth and hacking. Cambiotti said that the team’s focus was to “expand on existing systems and flip them on its head - like creating a rogue-lite approach with Watch Dogs: Legion’s unique gadgets.” Cambiotti also spoke about the team’s inspiration to include zombies in the game, stating that “there’s something inherently fun about playing with zombies, beyond the instant gratification of destroying them.”

The Legions of the Dead DLC is a rogue-lite experience that allows players to drop in solo or with up to three other players to fight the zombie horde overtaking London. The primary objective will be to find and secure a specific amount of Supply Packages scattered around the map, taking down the undead throughout the process. Random power-ups and skills from the main game will be available to use during a run, giving players an advantage against the multitude of enemies. After gathering the Supply Packages, players must reach an extraction point located somewhere in the city of London to end the current session, and can use currency called Z-Cred that is gained during the run to buy better gear for any subsequent runs.

The new DLC will release in Title Update 4.5 alongside a new Performance Mode in Watch Dogs: Legion, which will allow for gameplay at 60 FPS on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Another inclusion in the big update will be cross-gen multiplayer, allowing players with the newest consoles to play with friends on last-gen hardware. Fans will also be in for a treat with the release of free operative Helen on June 15, the elderly lady seen in many of Watch Dogs: Legion’s initial gameplay reveals.

Ubisoft has saved their substantial content updates for the summer months, with July seeing the release of the Watch Dogs: Legion - Bloodlines expansion. This update is exciting due to the return of Watch Dog’s 1 character Aiden Pearce and Watch Dog’s 2 character Wrench as playable characters. In August, Ubisoft is set to release a PvP mode for fans to enjoy, as well as what seems to be a huge Assassin’s Creed crossover. Ubisoft seems to be committed to keeping fans happy with Watch Dogs: Legion, with DLC content that should keep players coming back for more.
