When Watch Dogs: Legion launches on October 29th, 2020, it will be missing a key feature: online multiplayer. Players will have to wait a few weeks before that content is added to the game in a free update.

Watch Dogs: Legion is the third game in the Watch Dogs franchise and the first to lack a singular protagonist. Instead, players will recruit NPCs to join DedSec, a hacker collective. Every NPC will have their own skills and specialties, allowing players to choose how they want to approach any given mission. Those looking for an extra challenge in Watch Dogs: Legion can turn on an optional permadeath mode that will permanently remove NPCs from the game if a mission goes badly.

According to Ubisoft, multiplayer won't be coming to Watch Dogs: Legion until December 3rd. The good news is that it will be a free update for all players, and bring several new features. Players will have access to online free roam co-op, which will allow them to explore the open world of Watch Dogs: Legion in groups as large as four players. To shake things up, dynamic events will be added to the open world as well. There will also be special co-op missions available in game, as well as a separate kind of mission called tactical ops. Tactical ops are specifically designed for four players working together to complete.

Watch Dogs: Legion Will Have both Co-Op and PVP Multiplayer

Aiden Pearce as he might appear in Watch Dogs: Legion.

Players who would rather compete than work together will be able to play Spider-Bot Arena, a new death match mode coming to Watch Dogs: Legion on December 3rd that will allow four to eight players to fight each other using the game's new bots. At a later date, Watch Dogs: Legion will a mode called Invasion. A Watch Dog series staple, Invasion drops one player into another player's game. The "invader" is disguised as an NPC and must try to steal data from the other player without getting caught. In past games, this has been an optional mode that can be disabled, so if player's don't want to fend off incursions, they can simply flip a switch.

Ubisoft has said this is only the beginning of content they plan to add to the game post-launch, including even more modes and surprise events. Additionally, Ubisoft has revealed some of what players can expect from the season pass of the game, including four playable "hero characters" such as Aiden Pearce, the lead of the original Watch Dogs. Ubisoft appears to have extensive long-term plans for Watch Dogs: Legion, so those enjoying the gameplay should find new ways to explore the world in the months ahead.
